Ended early due to 10 run rule. Can't complain about this weekend.

App sweeps the series with Arkansas State, winning today 12-2 in a beat down. I guess they took their two previous series with ECU and UNCW personally. Anyway, great start in conference play.

Love it. After six straight losses it's nice to get 4 in a row no matter the opponent. Onto Ikea University.

Winningest coach in program history at Belmont Abbey and Lander. So, either he's a DII guy or Boone isn't the greatest place for DI baseball in a warm weather conference. What I know of Smith is very good.

App has a nice facility but, you know, it's kind of cold up there. Given the choice, kids prefer a warmer environment for baseball. There are much better climate destinations for baseball in the Sun Belt.
If that's the case, then why even field a team? Personally, I'm not buying the cold weather excuse. Anyway, there are four straight home games ahead, one against NC A&T and a series against Arky State (who is currently 3-8). Should do better in the next 4 than what we've witnessed in the last 6.
I don't believe he is using the weather as an excuse, he is simply stating that players would prefer baseball in a warmer climate - that statement is 100% true, however it doesn't mean colder climate teams can't/don't have good baseball teams -

Stating that players would prefer baseball in a warmer climate is pure speculation. Some probably do, not all. Stating that players prefer playing for a winning program regardless of climate is probably more like it.

True...but I prefer to attend baseball games in a warmer climate.

Isn’t the D1 baseball scholarship limit around 13? How does App handle that? Do we break up scholarships for players or are 13 guys given a ride and the rest basically on their own and play for the love of the game? I thought I had heard that NCSU for example gives every player half a scholarship (could be wrong). If a school’s baseball roster consists of over 50% paying their way that probably make it tough to be really competitive (at a mid tier level). Throw in the tough weather aspect in Boone and it must get challenging. If a guy wants to play ball, is paying for school and isn’t in love with Boone (crazy notion) then it’s possible he might just go where it’s warmer for the first chunk of the season. Just a theory.

It's not speculation - take out any connection a potential player has to a certain university or region of the country and yes, players would much rather play baseball in a warmer climate and I state that with my knowledge of being involved with high school and college baseball for over 20 years - I will again repeat this - it is doesn't mean a cold-climate team can't be successful.

Throughout my 30 year working career, I've been assigned to many places within the continental U.S. With that said, some the coldest places I've witnessed during February/March are on the Gulf Coast and Atlantic Coast, not the mountains. The wind blowing off the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico during winter will cut right through a person. I'm not really sure one could say that the "warmer climates" are really that much warmer around the Feb/March time frame, at least that's been the case through my experience(s). I remember reporting to basic training in February through March at San Antonio, Texas. Almost froze my ass off, that's a fact. Those strong cold winds of South America that blow north-east across the pampas from the Andes to the Atlantic are brutal.

Good thing we compete in the Sun Belt (mid major) vice SEC ($$$). It is felt, we can compete with other Sun Belt teams, weather gives no other Sun Belt Team an advantage over the other. Just my opinion for what it's worth. Peace

To close on this issue, please allow me to explain where I'm coming from. In a nutshell, I can't speak on what other fans expectations are of our sport(s) programs. Speaking for myself, I don't see App going to the College World Series as a mid major anymore than I see them playing Alabama for the National Championship as a Group of Five member. However, I sincerely believe we can continually be one of the best at the mid major level (in basketball and baseball) and as a member of the Group of Five without any regard to weather. That's it, I'll move on to something else. :)

Bottom of the third, no outs, Charlotte up 10 -0. Sound more like a football score, horrible!

Agreed, particularly when it's an App - Charlotte football game. But, ya'll know what I meant. The score sounds more like a football score regardless of who we're playing. Unfortunately it's Char. Bad analogy on my part.

Missing some key guys last night hurt. Need to clean up the self-inflicted errors.
