Big game tonight. Should be a goodern. Two of the top pitchers in the league (in ERA and opposing batting average allowed) facing off. I'll be tuning in at 8:30 and then paying close attention during the 'Canes game starting at 9:30ish. (One on the laptop, one on the TV) Gonna be a late night. GOAPPS!!! and LET'S GO CANES!!!

Ultimately the dam had to break , two pitches.I actually called the slam as soon as we loaded the bases, wish I had been wrong. All in all , a step forward for the program.

The last three games in the tournament were pretty entertaining, especially the semis. The format of meaningless Friday games I can’t figure out. We took two of three from the Champions just a week ago. Hope we find a way to hit , field and pitch better nest season....

The physical development and ability to hit with power of these tournament teams is eye opening. We fall way short.

Interesting point....I often watch our baseball team and wonder where the App strength program is. They seem to need much more strength training. I know little about baseball but I would think gaining muscle mass would have to help with hitting.

Strength training is important in all sports - however in baseball it doesn't come anywhere near the importance as in football, basketball and others - Of course eye/hand coordination and reflexes are of utmost importance - the strength training is more important for core muscles - transfer of weight and leg drive/hip rotation for hitting - big muscular upper body doesn't automatically correlate to power ---

Power hitters like Barry Bonds, Mark McQuire and the rest of the steroid era in baseball would probably disagree with that statement. Heck, Brady Anderson once hit 50 homers after getting jacked in the off season which is more than double any of his other years in 15 years as a MLB player. Strength training is very important in baseball, but it has to have a position specific design. Pitchers should not have the same routine as position players as arm strength isn't what makes people throw harder, it is really mechanics and lower body and that is what their strength training should focus on. Hitters with good core, legs and strong upper body will definably make the ball go further . Again, I think the steroid era proved this point really well. People used to say the same thing about golf until Tiger came along, now you see a lot more golfers using strength training.

I know you know this. Steroids and strength training are two separate issues. As for golf, we still skinny little guys hit the ball a long way

Yes, but it demonstrates the point that getting stronger does indeed help in baseball. Steroids will get you there a lot faster but in the end the added muscle strength will make a ton of difference in baseball.

Still happy to see the Megathread going strong. 1 11-page thread > 11 1-page threads.

Hoping USA can win today. Would be great for the conference to get to the Super Regionals.

As you gain strength, you swing the bat faster. Greater bat speed equates to faster exit velocity on batted balls. And greater bat speed gives the batter a better chance against higher velocity pitches.

There are a number of things that help pitchers and position players throw harder, but strength training is a part of that equation.

Not entirely disagreeing, but I have heard a lot of people say when Tiger got pretty jacked late in his career, it was when his game started suffering. Of course this was the same time he was pretending to be a navy SEAL and getting beat up and injured also, so who knows
