Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
You can't let Kermit go into 2027 without either a new contract or making a change. It would kill recruiting.Stonewall wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 1:18 pmMy take is that in year ten , with one year left on his contract, a losing conference record brings a change. The AD will be on the spot , especially if we don’t make the tournament. There was significant discussion after last season’s meltdown concerning expectations for improvement. And some push for a change then. My hope is that we go say 10-5 the rest of the conference slate and win a game or two in Montgomery. I really think we can but I could see it flip just as easily.
Some supporters have blinders on because they like Kermit. And I like him too and don't have a bad word to say about him off the field. But it's a results business.
Before today's meltdown, we'd been looking very good the last few weeks, going 6-2 in that time.
2-1 at JMU is a must IMO.

You are correct. Today was a terrible performance.311neers wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 5:14 pmWe are currently showing they do not matter.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 11:59 amAgreed. The OOC games do not matter at this stage.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 10:58 amWe will not be making the at-large to WS given our overall record. Our fate is we have to win SBC tournament. As such, Kermit do what you think is best to prep for SBC as it relates to OOC midweek games.
Getting freaking destroyed again.
7 runs in a row without recording an out in the 3rd inning.
9-2 still no outs in the 3rd.
It was 3-2…
I guess the perception is everything. OOC games do not matter because we are not good enough for them to matter. I will say that Losing the way we did today does more damage than any positives if we won with the same score.

Competing in the SBC is cool. But getting swept by GW and Western is not.

Getting swept by WC is bad enough but getting "bitch slapped" twice is inexcusable. No words.

Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
The way I see it, our goal is to go as far as we can in the SBC. I just don't believe it's possible to win the tournament. We don't have the pitching need for multiple days and that ugly Error Monster will show up over the course of several days. I want a top 6 seed in the tournament and if we somehow get to the final four again, I think that would be about as far as we could advance. Please prove me wrong.

None of us wants to see App lose, nor do we want to see Kermit go. But patterns have developed over recent years that are concerning.

Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
For the past 10 years, we've never sniffed an at large bid in a conference that gets 2-4 ALB/year...
I would love nothing more than to win the SBC title, but if we don't win the title, it would be nice to have the chance to go in as an ALB.
We don't give ourselves that chance with our current scheduling or the way we treat midweeks.
We treat it as boom or bust when it shouldn't be. There are 2 ways to make the tourney in baseball, but we only give ourself 1 chance.
We are a better program now than when Kermit found it. That's for sure. Shoot, we've been a solid program for 5+ years now. Just have to get over the hump.

I wouldn’t disagree with you, but I worry he’s running out of time.311neers wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2026 1:20 pmFor the past 10 years, we've never sniffed an at large bid in a conference that gets 2-4 ALB/year...

We won 10-0! DiRito went 8 IP and only allowed two hits. Charlie Evans had two homers.
