Simply pitiful
RPI #333 El Cid with a 4 - 19 record, takes us to task on the home court!
Nice goin' guys! Not!
I think I'll go throw up now.

Re: Citadel
Unbelievable! Time to pack it in for the season. As usual we manage to fritter away a victory. Gave the Citadel too many easy baskets and then failed to convert when we had the chance to win at the end.

Re: Citadel
Hmm... which team should I care about? The one that was #1 in the nation today or the one that lost to #333 in the nation? How long until our baseball attendance is greater than basketball attendance?

Re: Citadel
A school like App should never lose to a school like The Citadel. We have every possible advantage over them when it comes to building a basketball program with one noteable exception. Leadership. I see no way we can move forward with the current staff. It's time.

Re: Citadel
According to DJ, the Citadel has defeated us 6 of the last eight games we have played. The style that they play with the screens and the cuts is exactly what is most effective against us because we play such poor defense.

Re: Citadel
I betcha she'd whip this team into shape in two weeks or less. She can teach the game and motivate kids. They'd improve by leaps and bounds or she'd make them wish they had. They'd definitely play defense or they'd ride the hard pine bench.GlassOnion wrote:I wonder how much spare time Darcie Vincent has...

Re: Citadel
I am but a young, naive student. I have stood behind Jason Capel and this team for three years after experiencing an awesome run in Charlotte in 2009 as a freshman and despite being upset that he was the wrong choice. He was the hand we were dealt and we had no choice but to accept it.
I have seen this team be absolutely amazing and absolutely awful for four years. I have seen great crowds, and I've seen crowds that rival Watauga High School.
All along the way, I stayed optimistic. This team was young, the coach needed more time, they were still in the running for a bye, regular season doesn't matter, etc. I made every excuse in the book because I WANTED this team and this coach to be successful because they had "Appalachian" on their chest.
Tonight, that ends. Tonight, I accept the inevitable. Tonight is my final straw with the Jason Capel era. Tonight is the night I no longer get mad at triple-digit crowds. Tonight is the night I hope Charlie Cobb and this athletic administration admits how much they screwed up the golden opportunity they had here even after Buzz Peterson left. Are my expectations a bit too high? Yes, but is it too much to ask to win games you're supposed to win?
How can this athletic department, which has given us a consistently awesome baseball, football, women's basketball, track and field, and tennis programs screw up so badly with basketball? It's just sad.
Go 'Neers.

Re: Citadel
Thank God for our baseball team. All unspent basketball earmarked money should immediately be redirected to baseball.

Re: Citadel
I don't know if we have had consistently awesome baseball and women's basketball. Both have had some great history but both also had some years less than stellar.
Not trying to diss an App team, but it is not like baseball of last year (as this year so far) is the historical trend every year.
Otherwise, I agree with your sentiments.

Re: Citadel
Mark Harrell needs to pony up the cash to buy out Capel. He used his money to get us into this mess so now he needs to get us out. Its not Jason's fault that he was put into a position he wasn't prepared for so I won't blame him, but he has to realize App State can't accept results like this. By staying another year its only going to do more damage to the program, players, and his career.

Re: Citadel
I think a change is needed and I haven't always been as negative about our basketball fortunes. However, and while it does have to do with coaching, JC said in the postgame that they had worked in practice this week on defending the play that the Citadel used to tie the game to send it to OT. He said they even talked about it in the huddle preceding the Bulldog bucket. His words were a lack of discipline. That is precisely the failing of this team in so many ways. It is the most frustrated I have ever heard him. He even used the word embarrassed.
We are now two games down in the lost column, blew a chance to jump ahead of Western, and have taken the bye chance out of our own hands. Results like this at home aren't likely to generate much interest in the last two home games.

Re: Citadel
I should clarify. Specifically with women's basketball and baseball as well as football and wrestling, they've made the right moves in terms of the coaching staff. The success continues even after departures.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:I don't know if we have had consistently awesome baseball and women's basketball. Why do they always seem to make the wrong move for basketball. What is so different?

Re: Citadel
Embarrassing. They really, really tried to give us the game and we just wouldn't take it. Up 4 with under a minute to go, another blown lead.
A bye now seems highly unlikely and a run in the tourney a pipe dream. I'll watch the last two and hope for the best but this about closes the book on 2013.
Even after all that has gone wrong, we had a golden opportunity for a bye. Three home games, all winnable, to close out the season. Hold serve and a bye was all but certain, yet we lay an egg in the easiest game of the three. Given the time of year and what was at stake, this surpasses the High Point debacle as the low mark in all our home games. I honestly didn't think that was possible.
