I don’t think we’ve got a shot at the NCAA tournament but it’s at least good to see we are still in the conversation as a bubble team.

Ok instead of starting a new topic, the NCAA selection committee, about an hour ago selected 19 schools that were voted into the field on first ballot and 42 teams and all regular season champs were put into the “under consideration” category. Now the committee will go through a series of ballots until they can get enough agreement on the remaining slots….. obviously not today but over the next couple of days. We are certainly on the board.

Unfortunately, it appears that may well be the case… that we will not host. I read one article today, that had us in the last four for the NIT, which would not be hosting. Much of the new changes that the NCAA has made, we’ll just have to see how it plays out. It certainly looks like this years NIT will have fewer mid-majors and more P5’s.
Yes, because they aren't already enough mediocre P5's in the NCAA tournament.

Apparently those mediocre P5s generate more money with their mediocrity and first-round losses than a G5 reg season champ potentially making a run.

The Sunbelt Commissioner, our own Keith Gill is on the committee….does he have what it takes to work the room ? That is our shot.

Just because we are among that group does not mean there is a real shot. During the season everyone on here agreed that if we don't win the tournament we are out because the SBC is a one bid league and we have some bad losses. I think we would have a strong argument if we had beat Arkansas State and had an epic game with JMU but we lost in the semis to ASU and have the bad losses to Troy, Oregon State, Northern Illinois, Asheville, and Arkansas State.

We have no shot at the NCAA tournament but I think we will be in the NIT. My question is who we play and what will our seed be.

With all due respect Fan1, that’s exactly what it means, so you think it’s 0%…. fine I’ve said 5-10%…. who cares….. I would certainly agree that if we had won and played a close game with the Dukes, we’d have a stronger case. I also said our chances are significantly better getting in the NIT….. but even with that there will be less mid-majors in the NIT… I’ve seen one NIT projection where we in the last four in the NIT.

I think we are arguing because you see it as a chance since we are on the list of names but that does not mean there is going to be any real consideration. Of those regular season champs on the list we will be among those quickly discarded before they have any discussion.

I could see us being among last 4-6 teams in the NIT but I think we are getting in. I should have said we are likely getting in instead of definitely but I think skipping us would be crazy. I was thinking we are a 85-90% chance with 27 wins and some big wins among them. If somehow that does not happen I would think we have to be a #1 or #2 seed in the CBI for sure.

With our NET down to 74, we are hardly a lock for the NIT.

It's cool that the selection committee is being more forthright with updates. Looking at the various Bubble Watch's and then matching up with what the committee is saying about actual teams under consideration and its pretty clear there are a number of major conference "bubble" teams that aren't even on the board for consideration.

Perhaps nine bubble spots with 24~ teams in the running.

Under some sort of dreamlike scenario where the committee excludes every team without a winning regular season record (which tbh should be the case anyway) and then the MWC gets shafted it'd be possible. App would have to win out over...

Colorado State
Boise St
New Mexico
Wake Forest
Seton Hall

This team is would absolutely be competitive with an at-large bid and certainly leads in the NCAA in several important statistic, but we'd have to hope to god they've got a piece of paper in front of them with defensive stats and no quad system lol.

The field would look like:
Dayton
UNC
Houston
Uconn
Purdue
Arizona
Utah State
Tennessee
Saint Mary's
Duke
Clemson
Kansas
Iowa State
Baylor
BYU
Texas Tech
TCU
Texas
UConn
Marquette
Creighton
Purdue
Wisconsin
Illinois
Arizona
Washington State
Colorado
Tennesseee
Alabama
Auburn
South Carolina
Kentucky
Florida
San Diego St
Saint Marys
Gonzaga
Northwestern
Michigan STate
Nebraska
Appalachian State
FAU
Nevada
Virginia
St Johns
Drake
Pittsburgh
South Florida - AQ?
Grand Canyon *
Samford *
Mcneese *
Indiana State *
Princeton *
Quinnipac
Toledo
Norfolk State
Central Conneticut
Morehead State
Colgate
UC Irvine
Charleston
Sam Houston
Oakland
Eastern Washington
High Point
Grambling
South Dakota State
Eastern Kentucky
Vermont

Someone saying that App .St. have zero chance to make NCAA, NIT...5% , 50% or 63% chance of making the tournaments is a belief at this point...none are facts...it becomes facts after respective selection committees make the selections...
So, none of the percentages people throw out there are right or wrong....

Does saying you can't be on the bubble for the NCAA and the NIT count as speculation?

Including the 12 teams from the power six conferences, I count 24 teams with better NET than we have. It would seem our main competition will come from teams that are bigger names that have NET in our neighborhood. We sit at 72, someone like Memphis at 76 or Maryland at 81, could get the nod before us. I think we stand a good shot at getting in but its clear will more than likely travel to a P6's home court.
