I recommend reading that sentence out loud to realize how crazy and unsustainable this is for anyone outside of universities with donors that have more money than sense.

That this current system can't sustain or that power schools would have to be the ones to initiate change?mike87 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:15 pmI'd wager you are wrong.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 11:07 am100%. The lower level athletes will struggle or become extinct before the power conferences feel any level of “hurt”. Unintentional consequences

Indeed. A big reason many of us warned about this pay to play stuff. Many issues have popped up that were not intended to happen but that is why it is always smart to test things on a smaller scale before implementing for everyone.

That it can't (won't) be sustained. I don't like it either, but the money is there to be wasted in large power conferences. I don't think they view it as problematic like we do.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:21 pmThat this current system can't sustain or that power schools would have to be the ones to initiate change?mike87 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:15 pmI'd wager you are wrong.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 11:07 am100%. Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
They definitely don't yet but this won't sustain for 20 years. Changes will be made. I have heard some boosters at some major schools complain about being asked to fund a 12M a year NIL collective (the goal for some schools) while also being bled for money for their booster club and all the normal stuff they do. This will be interesting to watch for sure.mike87 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:31 pmThat it can't (won't) be sustained. Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
I know some Wake fans who think deals like that are crazy but there are definitely some fans who are all about it. I think for them this deal is a win win. If Spillers is an impact player then they feel it was worth it but if he doesn't do anything they hurt App.mike87 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:32 pmI bet Wake fans don't see a problem with the Spillers dealAppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:21 pmThat this current system can't sustain or that power schools would have to be the ones to initiate change?mike87 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:15 pmI'd wager you are wrong.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 11:07 am100%. They really have no reason to hate it. The money isn’t coming from their budgets.mike87 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:31 pmThat it can't (won't) be sustained. Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
Long-term, if things remain as they are, the nil contributions will more than likely flow as economy does. Right now, it is so new and there is too much disruption in the nil economy and related college athletics impacting the college athletics market so to speak... it is hard to predict...but I believe that it will continue to go up dramatically for several years and probably get normalized...if that is the case, it will be sustainable....With that said...Big and Rich egos want to win...and feel like they were integral to making it happen. I am cool with that. Wish we had 37 of those categories of individuals giving to App. St.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 1:58 pmThey really have no reason to hate it. Abson visiting Georgia. Once he sees that bar scene, he might bite. No pun intended. He would pair well with the McDonalds AA incoming Freshman Forward/Center.

A hospital in Hickory with a big Block A followed by ppalchian State Medical Center would go a long way to providing NIL money. Just saying.

Until it affects donations to the athletic department, then there isn’t much cause for them to get upset. I know that Gillin is concede about that aspect of NIL affecting his bottom lineBambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 2:47 pmLong-term, if things remain as they are, the nil contributions will more than likely flow as economy does. Re: Portal season (Abson, Spillers, etc)
For me, personally, I'd like this because I live nearby and could go see him play. If a coach can come to UGA and lock down the basketball talent that is in the state, they could become a power house. I saw a chart a while back that showed Georgia as second or third in the nation at producing blue-chip basketball recruits that play in other states. Example: Stephon Castle grew up roughly an hour from Athens (Covington, GA) and was a starter as a freshman for UConn this year.
