Assuming we keep Kerns, I believe he will be successful in building a roster like this year m

This is another reason why Donovan Gregory was such a special player for us. He stuck with it through the highs and lows. Thanks Don!

That being said, this crap sucks.

GO APPS!!

I agree but man is it going to be difficult as we're probably losing 80% of points, rebounding, assists, blocks and minutes.
Gregory
Huntley
Abson
Spillers

And the season hasn't even ended.

I feel you dude....but I have faith....and that a boat load of players are leaving other teams that may fit our team...got to have hope until it doesn't happen..
And, yes, I hate this part of the new world we live..

This is the harsh reminder of what mid-major programs are now. IT SUCKS. However such is life and we must push forward. This program has been dealt a major blow. Now if Kerns leaves I am afraid it will be the knockout punch. I hope with everything DK is back next season but I know he is a popular hire candidate and rightfully so. He has earned it! Maybe we poach some talent from the portal to address what we have lost today.

harsh reminder of a successful mid major program*

Coastal could have similar roster turnover, but its not because of the success of their players

thus far it appears that Ga State and Texas St are leading the sun belt with players entering the portal (high contributors as well)

Abson played the last few games like his heart was elsewhere.
Yeah, his game did seem off down the stretch.

This is why I think it’s going to be impossible to “build” a program if you didn’t already have an established one pre-transfer portal. Same applies to challenges that Ga State or UNCC are encountering in football. Same reason why you see guys like Elliott say “forget it”. Has to be really hard as a head coach.

How you manage to build any degree of continuity as a program now completely escapes me.

I’ve said this before but Steph Curry would have finished his career a Tar Heel/Blue Devil if transfer portal existed then. This is the new reality.

JMU head coach gone to Vandy. It’s a blood bath.

To me, this really sounds like Coach Kerns is leaving - wow, all of this is sucks

You mean like Seth?

I don't see coaching as harder than it was...Because in some cases you may have recruited a kid that stunk but you kept him for 4 years.

I see it as completely different. Coaches new job is to build a team every year. I don't think Kerns is unaware.

I did find is strange that he didn't leave the Wake Forest postgame interview with the typical "Go Mountaineers, take the stairs" mantra that he normally does, but maybe I'm reading too far into it. I know he was pissed about the officiating.

What job is open that he would be a good fit for? (FAU?, St Louis?). I don't know. The Indiana St head coach will be a hot commodity as well.

Further evidence of the destruction of college sports.

I can only speak for myself, but I’m not sure about how much longer it will
be worth watching.

Glad I was able to enjoy it for years before all of this stuff started

If he stays we will be fine. If he leaves we step back , but not to where we were five years ago.

As Stonewall and Bamboo have said, if Kerns stays, we will be fine. He brought in Spillers and Tate this year, he knows how to find capable transfer talent to make an immediate impact and he knows the kind of man that will blend into the program. I would have been more surprised if those two didn’t leave after this season. We should have one of the best backcourts in the conference if we keep Harcum, Brown, Tate and Marsh.

Yep IF those guys stay we have a solid backcourt. Spillers was really good but there are plenty of him out there who are probably riding the pine and would fill the void nicely. Any chance CJ goes one more year or is he more likely to look for a one year payday at a bigger program? I wondered all year what was going to happen with our big freshman. He played just enough garbage time to waste a year. Maybe he didn't want to redshirt? Otherwise why play him like we did?

Wonder which school will say " F' it" and drop basketball............I get the environment but Im just disgusted. I think we are going to start making contracts that include buy-outs for players..........
