Taking on Erskine Monday night in Boone. It’s the calm before the storm when we play Duke and UNC back to back.
Show up, show out.
Let’s go!

We need a big performance tonight. We need to go into Duke and UNC with as much confidence as possible.

The Flying Fleet , it's not Banana Slugs , but it's a pretty good moniker.

Re: MBB vs Erskine 12/13 6pm
Once upon a time, Erskine had a solid MBB program. No more! This team is 1-8 so far this season with eight blowout losses. Dunno what they're thinking. They have a head coach and one assistant and more than 40 players on the roster. I quit counting at 40, but there were more. What da h#$@?
This game will be for the young guys and the walk-ons in the second half.

Maybe they had grad rate problems like we did a few years ago or maybe they just don't cut anyone and if you want to wear the Garnet and Gold officially then a student can.asu66 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 4:34 pmOnce upon a time, Erskine had a solid MBB program. 40+ is crazy however.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

How's the student section tonight? If it's good...why are we not pointing a camera right at them the whole game for B roll and transitional clips? No reason to show Betty and Steve sitting on the sideline with 10 yellow chairs between them and the next closest fans. Show the most entertaining fans in the arena.

Regardless, that’s where the floor camera should point. Not at the sideline sections.

Re: MBB vs Erskine 12/13 6pm
Erskine has 52 players on their roster. I think they practice two sessions a day - one for those that are gonna play and one workout for the rest. They added a football team a few years ago. They are trying to stay alive and bringing in athletes increases their student population. Their coach made his fame by coaching (or watching) Zion Williamson when he was at Spartanburg Day School. It has been many years since Erskine has had a team that could be called successful. Red Myers, a HOFer, was coaching there for 25 years (died about 10 years ago) and was successful. The Fleet has struggled since then. They might get 400 fans to a game. Located in Due West, SC. I guess the students go to Greenwood or Anderson for entertainment cause there ain’t nothing in Due West. Nothing.

Of course I remember Al In Broome-Kirk Gym complaining about the heat, the officiating and the loud crowd of App fans on the stage behind his team's bench. He was almost always in his "rage mode" complaining about something that didn't suit him. I loved to laugh at his yankee antics. Later, as he matured, I developed respect for him. I had close relatives in Milwaukee while he was at Marquette. I got to meet him and talk a few minutes on one trip north. I was surprised that he and Coach Bob Light (App Hall of Fame MBB and MTEN head coach) had developed a friendship all those years ago and stayed in touch with each other until their respective health conditions failed them. I found McGuire to be eazy to like and to converse with.

Coach Light had many friends in the upper crust of basketball coaches.asu66 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 7:53 amOf course I remember Al In Broome-Kirk Gym complaining about the heat, the officiating and the loud crowd of App fans on the stage behind his team's bench.
