No mention of the half-time show? That was fun and kept the crowd in a great mood and the participants clearly loved it. #6 especially.
ESPN showed a pretty good chunk of the kids’ halftime game with audio (no commentators) which I thought was really awesome!

Byington has coached against App thirteen times as a HC in the Sun Belt. While he has lost 3 of 4 at JMU, he was 7-1 at Ga Southern. Prior to his entering the HC ranks, he spent a number of years as a Cremins assistant at Charleston.

I had the game on coming down the mountain and I have to admit there was no traffic down the mountain until Wilkesboro and I noticed that. I assumed that was an ESPN+ thing only and that ESPN2 had a half-time show that was not going to appear on the ESPN+ on demand show. If that was on ESPN2 live then color me gobsmacked. I would have thought there would be a ton of commercials if nothing else to feed the mouse.

It was a physical game and before the last 3 minutes JMU had roughly double the number of fouls App had. Heck, they used hack-a-Shaq on Abson 90 feet from the basket.

Keeping Abson, Spillers and Huntley out of foul trouble will be a challenge, although I thought the smaller lineup did really well on Thursday.
Our players are so well coached and they have bought in. They don't slap at balls, they go for a two hand tie up. They don't two hand check (which is an automatic foul) they one forearm check with the other hand in the air. We don't foul....we play solid perfect D. Hates off to Kerns and the staff. I have never seen a coach practice D in warm ups, but we do. I hope we can keep him.

P.S. JMwho was doing a lot of two hand checks that lead to automatic fouls.

Amazing game...great atmosphere. Wasn't able to make Auburn, so this was the best atmosphere for bball I've been able to attend since waaaaay back in childhood when we played ETSU during their run. Was able to bring my son, spent the weekend. Still feeling the post win glow. APP!!

The atmosphere was a good bit better than the Auburn game. There were lots of empty seats in the student section for that one.

Who were these season ticket holders who didn't show up behind both benches? I estimate between 25-50 seats that were empty the entire game. Take their season tickets away!!!!!

I have the game on right now and can clearly here the "We want 6" chant. I hope the coaches for this group know this is on ESPN+ and can show this to the people that played. #6 clearly would enjoy hearing the chant on TV given how he acted at the end. They were hanging out in the walkway to section 9/10 before the half and then at the end of the game but I did not see them in the stands.

I can't believe they didn't offer those seats to some of our wild, enthusiastic students. Or at least, email season ticket holders and ask them to consider selling/giving the tickets away if they can't make it to the game.

Just so you know, a lot of season ticket holders return unused tickets to athletics so that they can be used. And seriously, let's not criticize season ticket holders.

I've said before, and I'll say again, if I ever get to own a team I'll have an app where season ticket holders have to select if they are going to a game within like 12 hours of it starting. If they don't, those tickets get sold for $10. It drives me crazy, especially in baseball season, to see 50 empty seats behind home plate but the upper-upper deck is packed.

Now I just gotta figure out how to make a billion dollars so I can buy a team... any ideas?

You already have a billion dollar idea: seizing other people's property and reselling it.

How difficult would it be if at game time some of people in charge of HCC went and randomly asked some students if they would like to move to those unused seats- assuming that the ticket owners confirmed ahead of time that they were not going to use them? I'm assuming that this is known in plenty of time.

I’m sorry, what? Why can’t we? Sell out game, they had somewhere better to be and they didn’t resell them to someone who would go.

What is with this “you can’t criticize” mantra on this message board?

Let me restate that. You obviously can criticize anyone you want about anything you'd like. I am just surprised how willing some people are to tell other people what they should do with tickets they paid for. There are several season ticket holders who don't go to games, but purchase season tickets to support the team.

Way back in the original Hornet days when I lived in Charlotte me and my buddies would routinely slide down from the nosebleed section into the lower level high dollar seats when we saw those people didn't show up. Long before the secondary market was a big thing. Rarely did we get booted out.

Used to do this at Braves games when they were mediocre/bad in the mid-2000s. Now that they're good again, the ushers are a lot more strict.
Went to a Marlins game last summer and when I went to pull my phone out to show the usher my ticket he said, "Don't worry man. Just sit wherever you want."

Haha fair point. However, if you put this in the season ticket holder's agreement when they purchase the ticket, it wouldn't matter. I mean, is it even really their "property"? Yes, they paid for it, but the chair belongs to the team/stadium. The ticket holder has just paid for the ability to sit in it.

We made sure we wore a sports coat and tie (so that we looked important I guess) and walked down to the best seats available. If the people showed up we acted embarrassed and said "oh we are in a different section". Typically nobody actually came and we were astonished that people paid good money (even in the mid to late 80's) for pro basketball seats and didn't show up. I think we probably paid $8 for nosebleeds and often sat behind the bench. Oh to be 25 again.
