Wed is bad for me. Hope to make it work out and be able to get tickets. Hate it will be so close and I may not make it.

Had seven teams not declined, we probably not in. That plus 31-3 JMU 12 seed. Several years ago the SEC had a plan to be more competitive in basketball. I wonder if the Belt can't do something similar.

Just out of curiosity I wonder how many people here who are staunchly opposed to a G5 football championship are on board with us playing in the NIT?

I don't think that's an apples to apples comparison. The NIT has existed alongside the NCAA tournament for a long time. I think, if one is to make a football analogy, the NIT is more like playing in a bowl game if you don't make the CFP than it is a championship for a separate classification.

I'm sure there are different ways to look at it. The NIT was a significant tournament for many years. I count at least 14 power schools in it. I never understand when a coach/school declines an invitation with the weak explanation that "we are going to prepare for next season". If you are butt hurt about being left out of the Big Dance that's fine but that's a weak excuse. The only power teams that get "snubbed" are the ones who generally had 10+ losses and probably finished with bad conference records.

As I recall the NIT WAS the national championship before the NCAA.

One of the best things about making the NIT this year is that Concord didn't, and they are melting down like crazy. Delusional geeks saying that they "must have declined it."

You've gotta love shrinking venues and surge pricing nowadays to create demand. Duke was their first sellout since 2017 and they aren't even putting uppers on sell for the NIT game.

Totally agree, it's a really bad look. You aren't special.

I don't know about all schools but Pittsburgh's team did not want to play because many of their players intend to entertain pay to play offers to enter portal and a couple of their players were hurt. I am sure some are butt hurt but in some cases it sounds like injuries and/or the portal is why they are declining.

I wonder if they will open the upper level if the demand is high enough?

Looks like Concord will continue waiting for that invite.

There could be a myriad of reasons why a team would forego the NIT. Saying that you are focused on next season could be a way to save face publicly. It does seem weak and a bit arrogant but it could be a situation where some teams are going to have guys that want to enter the portal and would forego playing in the NIT. Having gotten granular with App football over the years, I have learned that not everything explained is as it seems.
