It's clear that NIL has not been the sole motivating factor for these departures. In terms of leaving for greener pastures, so far, only Spillers going to Wake fits that category. I assume Abson will make the jump to a higher level. It is a bit perplexing. I do understand that folks have their reasons and I accept that, but some of these on the surface seem like head scratchers.

Agreed, a rotational player transferring to a D2 program not close to his home is puzzling. Now if he was told his role could be smaller next year I understand, but that doesn't look the case with all the exits.

He was a PG, a Freshman PG at that, and led the team in shots taken per minute played. He put up .46 shots per minutes played. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but the next highest was .37. Gregory was .33 per minute for comparison. Many of them ill advised. That’s not what you need from your PG. My understanding is that he didn’t want to be a PG rather a SG and you can’t be a 5’9” SG in Division 1 basketball.

Butler probably didnt care because he barely played for them and was hurt. This is a message board, we share information about App players, ex app player...etc. If you don't like said information, you don't have to respond. We all know Abson is gone, and when he lands somewhere, I'll bet you someone posts where he lands.
Just because people post about Harcum/Abson/Burger/Google/ask for Prayers...etc does not mean we aren't focused on the Mountaineers.

My point is I am seeing more information being talked about pertaining to players who left us than the players who are coming in. You were also wishing we play the team he plays and beat them. It comes off as jealousy and I feel like it is unhealthy to stalk where they go and have feelings of resentment against him. If he is a star or does not get on the court it does not effect us one bit. I wish we could have kept them together but they wanted out.

I thought since the portal activity of us losing players has stopped that this thread might die and the recruiting thread would be active. I think this SG from Charlotte could be a good one. Kerns is really active trying to fill the roster. I am interested to see if he signs multiple JUCO players or we hit the transfer portal for the rest of our open slots.

It seems that the UNCC fans regarded him similarly to the way many of us did of Mantis with regards to being a streaky shooter. I personally believe he will be a better defender and hope he thrives in our system.

I have not read their board but if he is like Mantis but a better defender I'll take it. If Mantis had been a good defender then I think he would have seen more minutes.

Looking at highlights... realize just a snap shot. This guy appears better off the dribble, provides a better shot fake if D is running at him to block, and on a the highlights...he does not have to be perfectly set when shooting the 3.
But these are typically the best of your game given they are highlights...time will tell.

true. He seems to have a good mid-range jumper as well. Highlights are not solely him parking behind the three point arc.

Situations, rolls and rosters change every year though so if that's his new role, I would have transferred too. He's a scorer, not a slow it down and dish the ball-I assume they knew that when recruiting him.
Hate to see him go, he will run it up in Asheville with their style of play. Kerns will find a replacement and probably already has with the 2 guards coming in.

I only say this now because I had made some comments about Marsh earlier this year. During several games he seemed to be playing way too much run and gun and was hurting the offense. For whatever reason he was back on the bench and his minutes dropped for several games. Might have been strictly that he was a freshman. I remember a quote from many years ago about the Atlanta Hawks during the Dominique Wilkins era (when they were pretty good). I think he said that there was only one ball and everyone could not take tons of shots.
