MBB vs S. Alabama 2/4 6:30 PM
What a butt whooping we gave to #1 Troy in their house. They looked confident and determined. They’ll have to bring that energy against the Jaguars as the winner takes sole possession of 2nd place and loser falls back into the mix of 6 other teams fighting for seeding in the tournament. Jennings carried the weight but had help from everyone including Banks, which was a great contribution. Keep playing hard defense and feed the hot hand(s).

The Jags and Herd will be busy down the stretch with only 10 games played so far.

S. Alabama has us, Troy and Marshall to still play. Marshall has us, S. Alabama, Georgia Southern twice, and an improved Coastal.

Chaze Harris is a beast for those guys. 17.7ppg, 4.8 rebounds, shooting 53% from the field. They have a BIG forward also in Adam Olsen. 6'8" 225 but not as big as Luke Wilson at 255 or Michael Marcus Jr at 6'9" 255. Gonna need Luke and Michael to lean on Olsen and wear him down.

Re: MBB vs S. Alabama 2/4 6:30 PM
S Alabama come into this game winning 5 of their last 6 games with their lone loss at home vs Louisiana. Despite the bad loss, 4 of their last five wins were against teams in the middle of the conference that are 1-2.5 games behind App and S. Alabama in the standings. A loss to S. Alabama would not only hurt us in a head to head tie with them, but if there were a 3 or 4 way tie, we'd also likely be on the back end of the tie breaker. They have 3 players averaging double digits per game and they are led by Chaze Harris, a 6'6 guard, at 17.7 points per game. He also leads the team in assists and steals and is 3rd in rebounds. Despite being the lead scorer, he is not a deep ball threat. That threat comes primarily from Adam Olson, a 6'8 forward who is hitting the 3 at 37.8% (a stretch 4?). He has 73 more 3 attempts than anyone else on the season. Most of their games are decided by 10 or less points, but in their 16 point win against GaSo, Harris and Olsen combined for 43 points. In their loss to Louisiana, Harris still got 18, but Olsen was held to 9. In their only other loss in the past 9 games (Troy), Harris got 18 again, but Olsen only got 5. Both are difficult defensive assignments, but luckily, we are one of the top defensive teams in the nation.

These teams look very similar on paper. Neither team shoots great from 3 or FT, both play a slower tempo, and both want to play tough defense. I think we're in for a physical battle. Hopefully the refs from Southern Miss don't show up or we'll both be in the double bonus by the 10:00 mark of each half.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 9:13 amS Alabama come into this game winning 5 of their last 6 games with their lone loss at home vs Louisiana. I see us taking a lot of 3s. Now how many we hit will be the question.

Re: MBB vs S. Alabama 2/4 6:30 PM
Patience on offense, skip passes to wings. If threes aren’t falling utilize Marcus and Wilson in the high and low post with some post to post action against the zone. We have the personnel with Dodd and Jennings ability to penetrate and kick and the bigs to run some overload action. Troy tried zone against us late in the game…didn’t work for them. But South Al has practiced and run their zone all season.
What’s interesting to me about USA is that they almost exclusively recruit juco and Div 2 players, but usually end up near the top of the league. Riley is apparently good at finding guys who fit his system and/or molding them to it no matter what level they’re coming from.

Similar for Kerns. Each year Kerns gets buyin on team defense by mid-January. He's proven it time after time to get more out of the team than the individuals on it.

Re: MBB vs S. Alabama 2/4 6:30 PM
Hopefully, we get more of this tonight
After providing one of the most impressive performances by a Sun Belt player this season, App State men’s basketball guard Kasen Jennings was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week.
For the week, the Atlanta native averaged 25.5 points, five rebounds, and 2.5 steals, while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 60 percent from behind the arc. He is now ranked as the No. 5 player in the Sun Belt Conference, according to KenPom.

In addition to our game, Troy and Georgia State face each other tonight, so at least of them will get an L tonight. Marshall and S Miss, too.
