I’d say that as long as you compare coaches from the same rule eras….. then apples to apples. But comparing coaches between two different rule eras is like comparing apples to doors. In all seriousness, it makes sense to compare staffs, in-game coaching, adjustments …. Not wins, winning %, not tournament wins… completely agree that the goal is getting to the big Dance.

It’s simple. For Kerns’ style of play, you need depth. With tired legs and/or injuries, you are unable to force teams to slow down to your pace as well. Need 8-10 guy rotation with a true backup PG and a smart sharp shooter. KJ Vasser was a big miss this year.

Is a team like Georgia Southern, who is uptempo and shoots a lot of 3s, fun to watch? Sure. However, look at their regular season results. I much rather play Kerns’ style and win. Just takes funding.

Vasser was a huge loss. It's hard to replace a starter given our budget aka lack of depth.

I believe Bobby Cremins to be our all time best. He inherited the worst program we had fielded in 75 years. Becam championship level in a short time. DK is second or third behind him. As to all of you suggesting more money, send it in. Or demand a shift in priorities away from football. Someone last night reminded me that “ we are in the entertainment business and this isn’t entertaining enough to generate revenue “. Again, my read after talking to people, if we continue to win more than we lose , he can stay at least until his contract expires. A losing season brings a different scenario.

Let's not forget that Bobby had his core (Robinson, Hubbard, Anderson, Lawrence, Searcy, Bowser, Gentry, and others) for their careers. There was not portal to jump into. When you have that consistency with all conference players you win games and championships.

Maybe this question needs to have its own thread but I shudder to think what irrational comments would follow. I have to ask in all seriousness to the “fire the coach” crowd.

How on earth do you expect any good coach at our level to maintain success? I keep reading that we need to find and spend more money. I see lots of decent players coming and going at App and at our level in general. Those who spout the money thing have no clue what that magic number is. There will always be a finite number of legit D1 talent every season. Losing is disappointing but it’s got to be a minor miracle to turn a brand new roster into a 20 game winner- every year! What on earth do some expect our coach to do?

The team that has played previously has won 7 of the last eight games in the tournament. The only exception was Troy's win over USM last night.

I will not go to the tourney until they move it to somewhere like Charlotte and we show that we can finish. I refuse to spend the money just to watch us get embarrassed ever year in the tournament.

I am just not going to waste money by going down there. App charges us more than ever before and I'm not stressing my finances just to see us get embarrassed on the road in any sport when players just come and go. There is really no reason to make any type of connection with them anymore because they rarely stay. Does not mean I stop pulling for us.

I don't even know what the link is to the 49ers board. I pretty much read this and 247 and that is it. I don't have time to read 20 boards but I know a few folks who do and I don't see how they keep up.

App dud enough to get a fourth seed for the the tournament. Although I prefer first place, it is a respectable finish.

Has nothing to do with being cheap. I have traveled before and this is as much about spending that much time as anything as well. If our players actually stayed to develop and we could have a good idea of what to expect I would travel more. I'm just not doing it with so many unknowns. Why should I spend more money and time to support kids who won't be here 6 months later?

I have no issue with Kerns. I actually believe if not for the portal that Kerns would not be here because he would have built us into a 25-30 win team and got a big pay day already. Kerns is doing the best he can. Kerns is a top 2-3 coach in our league. We need to clean up free throws and finish better down the stretch but he has put a winner on the floor every year.

This is very true. I think Cremins and Peterson were elite coaches and believe that Kerns would be in that discussion if he was here in the same era. You pretty much will have to rank coaches based on pre-portal/NIL and post-portal/NIL. It is easier to win titles when you can develop talent. For example, Luke Wilson could be the best player in the SBC most likely in 2 years but will he actually be here to do that?
