Hey, It Could've Been Worse

So the Jay Canty news is tough and the Aaron Scott news is tough too. You lose a baller and a three point sniper with both being out. However, my sources told me late last week the rumors were swirling that Tab and Neal could miss time too. I'm optimistic that both will be playing since Capel didn't publicize that along with the other two. So take it for what it's worth, but glad to not be losing more.

It's gonna get tougher. Ask someone who knows about the secret scrimmage against Gardner Webb. Whew.....

Pardon if this has been posted elsewhere. Is this the news of which you speak?

As we apparently start the year as we did last year with one of our best players sidelined until the end of the semester, it would appear that Capel will find it hard to produce the kind of season that he needs to keep his job. I'm not taking any position as to whether he deserves his job or not (he certainly hasn't done anything to make him popular with the fan base) but I am sure not pulling for the team to lose so he does get a pink slip. It seems some folks do hope that happens.

The appeal with Capel is that he's got the name. His brother is a well known coach for the most part, kids may have watch him play for that awful UNC team in 2001, but people know that name and can correlate it to basketball. He is a good recruiter of talent. He can say he learned to play from Dean Smith and kids will eat that up. Unfortunately with Capel, recruiting talent and utilizing talent don't always mesh. Capel is also cheap.

I want to see Capel be successful because that'd mean the program is successful, but he's got a long way to go for sure. Things have got to change on and off the court.

"Capel is also cheap."

Perhaps the most important factor in his hiring...
