That's a Sunday. Call me a fuddy duddy, but I don't like college basketball being played on Sundays. It will be great seeing Bobby Cremins, however, as he along with Bob Light are my favorite App basketball coaches.

You fuddy duddy. Is it a religious issue or an NFL issue? Because if it's a religious issue, the sabbath hasn't been sacred for quite a while now (NFL, NASCAR, stores open, etc.)

UNCC*

There is no existing university called "Charlotte."

Nor is there any existing university called App State. I suppose its too much to ask you to get over your obsession of Charlotte or, if you prefer, UNCC. If you read the article on Appstatesports, it refers to the school in question as Charlotte. I think you are fighting a losing battle on this one but you clearly are free to call them what you want, as is anyone else. So, I call them Charlotte.

Why do you insist on validating their pathetic rebranding efforts? Do you call ULL, "Louisiana?"

Obsession with UNCC? Please. Don't confuse me for obsessed. I NEVER bring them up. But I must CORRECT you when you INCORRECTLY call that school by a contrived alias that serves only to make a commuter school sound like a real college.

So we have permission to jump up and down on you if you refer to the "Chattanooga" game or that baseball will be playing "Greensboro" on a weekend?

I live in Charlotte and UNCC should never call themselves Charlotte. They are not Charlotte, they are UNCC. Someone should take legal action like a lot of the Louisiana schools should do.

UNC-C gets an overwhelming amount of funding from the State of NC and that is reflected in their true name: The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. For one of the few times, I am in agreement with Gonzo and have voiced this opinion several times on this board concerning the name of UNC-C.

So, if Louisana-Lafayette just called themselves Lafayette that would be wrong? UNCC is not calling themselves, North Carolina. There is a difference. Moreover, the university isn't calling themselves Charlotte, just the athletic teams (http://www.uncc.edu/). It seems the national media is going along whether some object or not (http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketb ... otte-49ers). I personally don't care if people want to call them UNCC or Charlotte. I'm not sure why others should care one way or the other. Are App fans that insecure that we have to complain about this?

Honestly the main reason I insist on it is that it REALLY gets under their skin. It reflects their insecurities/identity issues/little-man syndrome when they constantly bitch about the average lamen thinking they're a satellite campus of UNC CH.

That should be reason enough for anyone whose interacted with a UNCC fan (and subsequently hates them as anyone who interacted with them certainly would) to insist on calling them UNCC in any and all contexts.

The answer to that would be yes to insecurity, jealousy, or something. Why on earth should any APP State ( I know illegal name ) care what they or anyone else calls them. They are not a rival and we really have nothing to do with them other than the occasional BB game. Some folks on here just are obsessed with them. They are no more Carolina than we are. Insisting on UNCC actually connects them to Carolina and gives them credibility. Charlotte works for me. Just not a big deal.

Well I guess that would be GS. We are not playing anyone in the SOCON any more and haven't played anyone else in the Sun Belt yet so I guess that would just leave GS. Do you think Charlotte is a rival?

Not yet, but due their proximity and the fact that they are adding football, they may well soon be. To me, a rival is often, but not always, someone close geographically. I would be surprised if droves of ASU fans will travel to Georgia Southern, and vice versa, on a routine basis.

As to not playing anyone in the Southern Conference, that remains to be seen. It is assumed by many that we won't be traveling to FCS schools, but that doesn't exclude them from coming to Boone, in my opinion.

Sorry I thought you were talking about now. They may become a rival although most of the time a rival is someone in your conference or someone you play every year. It would be nice though as they are close and most of our future teams are pretty far away. I will bet that more fans go to GS in the future though than they do now. You have to remember that a lot of folks who went to Furman, Wofford, Elon, Citadel, and GS will not be going to that many away games any more. Therefore a chance to go to an away game may draw a lot more fans to GS and G ST.
