Personal Attacks, Profanity, Name Calling

Unread post by ASUPATCH » Wed Jan 02, 2013 12:34 pm

Calling all mods. Can we please get this under control. Ive been an MMB member for going on 8 years now. Ive also been a member of Finheaven.com(yeah I am a born Floridian and dolphin fan) for just as long. There is the common saying on message boards of attack the post not the poster. Do we need more mods? What gives on allowing this stuff to be spewed as of late?

Trying to keep up as best we can. There are four of us, so I don't know if we need more, but we can't all be here all the time.

People seem a little less willing to follow the rules than in the past.

Thank you sir. I know it isn't easy to get it all. Just seemed the last few days in general were littered with personal attacks.

It seems like the same couple people doing it the last couple days and they're all blaming in on new people even though they seem to be propagating it. It's some kind of strange lovefest between longtime posters hating on the new "feel" of the MMB. This new url has really messed up their day...good thing they have each other.

It shouldnt happen in the first place, but as you actually created a thread to laud someone for it...

I felt like and even mentioned that it would have been much better to have left out the profanity but the concept of what he was saying was spot on target, IMOp. As much profanity that has been leveled at me through the years on here, I think I know what I'm talking about and I've been accused of being extremely thin skinned, thus I'm sure you can take it if I can and could. :!:

Not by me.

And I dont care as much as its aimed at me, but I do not appreciate it derailing or closing down threads.

As for people not liking what I post, and supposedly leaving, if they arent bright enough to realize that with a few clicks of the mouse, they'd be free of my posts forever, thats their problem. Thats the whole point behind being able to block someone.

I think you would be best served by directing your complaint to the person who made the post. I think the moderators have said their part.

Are you kidding me, Glenn? This board has had its personal attack posts but it pales in comparison to the garbage that was thrown out on the old board. I know because I was the "victim" of tons of such garbage...almost on a daily basis. It is always less obvious when the attacks are leveled at ones self than as a bystander. It seems you and the other mods have done a good job of controlling most of the trash this time around.

i can't recall me using profanity...maybe my link by bill murray was profane but i didn't force anyone to open it...and as that person implied, if he wasn't "bright enough" to see that the link might be a youtube way around the rules then that's his problem. and there have been many times that ive seen "profane" language used and just misspelled by using $ or other ampersands. sometimes you have to call someone out personally for their remarks in my opinion. i have talked to a lot of people on this board and no longer apart of this board and they all say the same thing...a few of the people on here are negative to the nth degree. unless you guys were in the room with coach or cobb or peacock, you have no room to call people liars...intimating that coach's legacy is in the toilet (a metaphor for feces) and no matter what others say...your opinion trumps theirs. and then you get your feelings hurt by a few choice words and someone telling you to chill the hell out. i played kid football...no high school, no college...nada...nothing. i'm athletic and big enough to hold my own, but i don't go around screaming about how one of our players sucks when i've never been thrown a pass on 4th and long to win a game. never have pretended to either...some of these guys on here have come on giving opinion about coaches and players without knowing the full extent of the true goings on at asu athletics. you want to be constructive...fine, but how about giving a thoughtful reason to your dissatisfaction and how it could be changed...instead of trying to just get a rise out of people. a lot the people on here aren't former college athletes..they are teachers, tradesmen, cops, accountants and what have you...you are fans...this is a fan site...not a bitch and moan site but some of you have made it that. i have a ton of friends and quite possibly, i have made some "non-friends' on here but those who know me and even sometimes disagree with me know that i'm willing to see both side of the coin...i'm afraid that those same peopleon here that i'm referring to aren't capable of doing the same...except rekdiver after i went back and studied some of his former posts on other issues. coach is gone...bye bye...adios...so let those who admire him and still wish him well, have our peace....the body's not even cold and some of you are acting like he did nothing for the school...and that's what is sad and so troubling on a board that wouldn't be a board had it not been for coach moore and the teams he coached....PERIOD!

I supported Coach Moore and called out others for the constant negativity. but after it became apparent that Coach Moore's comments weren't entirely correct and he played the issue out in the media It made me mad especially since it had the potential to hurt the program. no matter what he did for ASU you are not bigger than the program and if you want to leave a legacy doing what he did this is not the example to set. sorry if you don't like the metaphorical references but that is how I feel and I am not alone. The choice is his to make. His legacy will be determined by what he does in the next year or two. Will he support our program or be a bitter selfish ex coach who can't see the bigger picture. I hope he chooses to be an ambassador for the school and the program. I can forgive him for the initial response but I won't if anything more he says or does reflects negatively on our athletic department or the football program.

I think it is more of a lack of civilty or manners. It is also why I cut my visits over the last year or two. Still read some but why bother posting.
We used to have discussions among friends. Now it seems like shouting matches between rivals or Folks out looking to shout down someone.

By the way, still dont know how you all fit in the work on this board. I dont' have much time for anything these days.

I'm not sure anyone would want to see that. I was disappointed in Coach's responses immediately following the season, but I also understand how much he had invested and was still invested. I don't blame him for being human, but I wish he had handled it differently. One of my prized possessions is a football signed by Coach. I've only interacted with him twice, and it's hard to remember anyone being as genuinely nice and inviting as he was. Despite the way he responded with the media after everything went down, I still hold him in high regard as a great man.

That being said, my desire is for Coach to remain with ASU as an ambassador for the athletic department and to live out his days in Boone as the legend he is. The wound may be too fresh for him to do that now, but hopefully in a few months both he and CC/KP will shake hands and all work together to make ASU even better.

No I'm not fine with him going to UNCC or any school we may play. If he wants to go back to Texas that's fine if that was part of his plan. I honestly don't see any benefit for any school hiring him. One year at UNCC would destroy his relationship with the majority of fans at ASU. He'd be a fool. What jerry needs to do is get on a christian speakers circuit and play golf and talk to player parents. Who makes up this stuff about UNCC anyway? If there is another black and gold knitted hat with beer labels sewed into it and that is not you then I apologize for the trolling remark. I stand by my remarks that his legacy will be determined by what he does going forward. I'd love for him to come back to a stadium full of fans and graciously accept our appreciation and allow something to be named for him.
It's his choice, but I'm telling you...if he messes with the program he's done.

This thread is very disappointing. I was eager to see what kind of personal attacks, profanity and name-calling would be on display. What gives?

Just curious, but what give us fans the right to dictate what Coach Moore can and can't do for the rest of his life? What he "needs" to do is whatever he wants to do. We have no right to put any kind of conditions over how this man can live his life. So many fans find it unacceptable when he acts human and expresses his displeasure with is firing and at the same time want to dictate how he can live the remainder of his live. We fired him. End of story. I wish him well in whatever he chooses to do even if that includes coaching at another school that we play. He gave his all for our school and I am grateful for that and all that our football teams accomplished during his time. His legacy will not be tarnished for me by anything he does after we fired him. When people get hurt they often don't act appropriately, its just human nature and I won't hold him to any higher standard then I hold the rest of humanity. We need to appreciate what he has done and let him live out the rest of his life the way he sees fit.

The original post in the thread about him possibly going to UNCC was by a UNCC troll. But as to Moore, we don't know what kind of financial condition JM is in. FWIW Thus I wouldn't blame him for going to any program as a fund raiser even if it were UNCC whom I have some disdain for. Living in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, etc. would give him better access to medical care which he will need as he ages.
