If the paramaters included being offered a high paying job to do very little with his current employer? If you went to collect unemployement and they found out you were offered another job with your current employer and you turned it down? Good luck my friend.AppGrad78 wrote:If you took 100 people who had no knowledge of coach Moore's situation, laid out the parameters, and then asked them to characterized this person's dismissal, 99 would say he had been fired. It puzzles me why so many people prefer a euphemism.

ASUPATCH wrote:Ok lets put the word "fired" to rest once and for all. If you worked at say Walmart as the butcher and your boss said we want to get someone we thing is a better butcher but you can still work as a greeter(Job CC offered to JM for 100k). You then look at your boss and say no thank you. To me that is quiting. Now I am not saying JM is a quitter. Far from it. But it wasnt fired. Good now that arguement is over.
If he wasn't fired, does he still have access to his office and title? I ask this because his contract doesn't expire until June so if in fact he wasn't fired then he would still be referred to as the coach, still have his office, still get to run the team and those activities would continue until the contract expired, and then we would replace him. We all know he has none of those benefits. He was fired and I just don't understand why so many have a hard time admitting that fact. It is what it is, he isn't the head football coach at Appalachian State anymore even though his contract ran through June (or so I have been lead to believe) therefore he was fired. There really is no use going around and around in this but I just don't understand the ardent view that it wasn't a firing. It is almost like some posters don't want to think our school is capable of treating him that way. Just makes no sense to me. He was fired, lets move on.

Re: Personal Attacks, Profanity, Name Calling
He was asked to stay in a different position and turned it down. You don't wait till June to replace a coach for recruiting purposes. If my boss said change positions and I didn't and I was replaced I wouldn't with a clear head tell anyone I was fired as I could still have a job with the same company. If he's had taken the job I bet he would have access to all facilities including his office until June. He quit. He didn't get to stay at App on his terms(as HC) so he took hi ball and went home. It is 100% coach Moore's choice that he is no longer employed at the university.

Re: Personal Attacks, Profanity, Name Calling
We aren't talking about him being employed by the university in any capacity, it is strictly in his former capacity as head football coach. In that capacity he was fired. In other capacities, you are correct he turned that offer down but that has nothing to do with the fact that he was fired.

Okay, then let's say that Jerry chose to be fired rather that be reassigned. It really doesn't matter anymore.

I posted the exact same thing the day after this happened. He chose to be fired rather than be retired. I have a friend who coached at UNCC that did the same thing. He was told it is time and we will say you retired. He said hell no you are firing me so report as such. Basically JM chose that path. He chose to make it difficult rather than easy on Cobb.Rekdiver wrote:Okay, then let's say that Jerry chose to be fired rather that be reassigned. It really doesn't matter anymore.
And you are right it does not matter anymore so I call dibs on the last word here

Since the AD was the one who pulled the trigger, why should he particularly have made it easy on him. I would bet that JM would have handled things differently were he to be able to do it over. As several have said on here, both should have done things differently.

This is exactly what is wrong with this country today. So few are willing to say that both sides are wrong. Untill you admit that both sides are wrong there will never be any resolution. There is no doubt in my mind that people will be arguing about this 20 years from now.

Re: Personal Attacks, Profanity, Name Calling
I think the bigger problem is that so few people care or are smart enough to realize what is going on, and for that few that do admit both sides are wrong, their only solution is that the side they are not on is the side that should stop.bcoach wrote:This is exactly what is wrong with this country today. But where are all the personal attacks and name callings people keep bringing up? I don't see any, nor do I see any in this thread.MountainMan wrote:This thread just cracks me up.
It starts out as a plea for less personal attacks and name calling, and for more civility, and before it gets started good, it TURNS INTO a thread of personal attacks, name calling, and arguments about the same old argument that has ALREADY been beaten to death for the last month. You gotta admit, that's pretty clever.
