I've stayed away from crowing about the Dodgers after their painfully slow start this season; but...

This is starting to get historic.

The Dodgers won yet again on Saturday night, this time behind eight strong innings from left-hander Clayton Kershaw, blanking the Phillies, 5-0, at Citizens Bank Park.

The victory puts the Dodgers in elite company. They are 42-8 since June 22, matching the 1941 Yankees and 1942 Cardinals for the best 50-game stretch since 1900.

"We see what they've got," Phillies interim manager Ryne Sandberg said. "You see the roll they're on. They've come as advertised and shown why they're on the roll that they're on."

On a smaller scale, the Dodgers are riding their first 10-game winning streak since 2006 and are 25-3 in their last 28 games. They are 15-1 in August and a season-high 22 games above .500, and they haven't lost their last 17 series.

Saturday's win also improved their lead in the National League West to a season-high 8 1/2 games.

I am pulling hard for my man Don Mattingly. Would love to see him win a championship.
