A simple statement that the Hornets traded Kobe without context is revisionist history.

That was Kobe and his agent demanding it.
Yeah, that was always the Lakers making that pick, from what I understand. Never really blamed the Hornets for it, especially with 12 other teams passing on Kobe as well. Drafting a high schooler was still a novelty and considered very risky at the time.

SGA is a little different. That was also a pre-arranged trade, but there's no reason Charlotte couldn't have just taken him for themselves instead of trading down one pick to earn some extra scraps (second-round picks).

But even when they've been "lucky," they've been unlucky. i.e. getting the #2 pick only to miss on Dwight Howard, Anthony Davis and Wembanyama by one spot each.

Hornets did not miss out on Flagg. Heck, his former teammate (on the Hornets) is pretty damn good.

The Hornets were facing a decision of max contract for a guy that is extremely injury prone. One of the best ways ways to handcuff a team for years is having that much on the books for a player that isn't contributing. I don't blame them for not wanting to take that risk.
Injury prone or an obvious lack of toughness?
Either way... The point remains the same. You only give max contracts to guys that have high probability of being stars. Not guys that have 50/50 chance of just playing.

Either the Hornets are aiming to build a contender in 2035, or they're stockpiling all these picks in hopes of pulling off a big trade.

Then draft Steve Nash instead of letting a high school kid dictate your franchise. It’s not revisionist history to say the Hornets have traded away generational talents on draft night and barely missed out on recent players like Wemby and Flagg.
You're awesome with hindsight that Nash would have been a good pick, congrats!

Also how does one "miss out" on players drafted higher than their draft position, Wemby and Flagg both went first, Hornets picked second and fourth in those draft, respectively.

You do realize we can all agree Jordan as an owner was terrible and drafted poorly, Biz, Frank, and never forget how bad the Morrison pick was. The evidence is easy to find and explain, no need to bend reality.

Ball and Bridges trades was about culture change and putting the current owners players on a team.

Are they done trading, I'd expect one more minor trade with some expiring contracts as bait, although those are handy closer to the in-season trade deadline.

For the free agency period, the first priority will be extending Miller, second find a backup PG, lastly a vet at PF/C.

They badly need some size. Grayson and Coby are both shy of 200. Kon 215. Miller 200. Naz 264. Steinbach 248 and Diabate 210 (6'10" for the last two, the rest are under)

If they don't get some solid size at the wing, they are going to get killed on defense. Someone has to lock down the perimeter and Coby, Kon, Miller aren't it.

Zero chance they were giving Ball another huge max deal and they obviously wanted White- good move. Bridges is in the last year of his contract- no way they were paying him, also good move. I doubt all of these guys remain on the roster. They have the roster exemption and these moves were all done to set up a big FA deal. I was thinking Jaylen Brown but even if they landed him what’s the starting rotation look like? Miller isn’t a power forward. Watched some highlights of the big man they drafted (against Big competition) and he had the whole game- shot 3’s, blocked shots and was a force inside. Diabate has no offensive game and so far neither does Kalk. I would love Jalen Duran if that worked out. Would be an all around playoff roster and the much needed inside toughness would be greatly improved.

Tre Mann is likely out, and although I like him, Grant Williams may be on the trading block, so we may see one or two more additions. Coby, Kon, Miller, Diabate and Naz will be our starters if no major change is made, with Anderson, Grayson/James, Royce/McNeely, Kalk and Steinbach coming off the bench. Looking forward to summer league, think it starts next week, mostly excited to see Anderson, Steinbach and Kylan Boswell run it with James, McNeely, and Kalk.

PJ Hall not on summer league roster. Too bad, he always does well in those against lesser competition and is fun to watch.

McNeely was main standout last night with 28 points (7 3’s). Kalkbrenner had a slow start but good 2nd half. Steinbach with a double double. Outside of McNeely, backcourt struggled. Someone needs to put a leash on Penda for the Magic.

Hornets non-nationally televised games will be on WSOC, no more Bally or Fan Duel.
