RIP: James Garner aka Bret Maverick

Unread post by asu66 » Sun Jul 20, 2014 1:06 pm

Here we go again. One of the best of the TV era western series actors, James Garner, was found dead in his home yesterday evening. This one hurts anybody who grew up in the 60s and 70s. RIP, Jim.

Sorry to hear this. I still like to catch Rockford Files reruns from time to time.

IMO - His best role was in Barbarians at the Gate. He had some hilarious one liners.

This will surely sound corny but I really enjoyed him and Jack Lemmon in "My Fellow Americans" and my girlfriend knows him best from "The Notebook".

Skin Game, 1971. He and Louis Gosset Jr. had me in tears. He will be missed!

And a lot of these were out there as well. Most folks were at one time convinced that these two were husband and wife.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

My grandfather who was a professional heavyweight boxer(fought Max Baer and Joe Louis)became an actor after he left the ring. He was actually in an episode of Maverick with James Garner. Had nothing but great things to say about the man. Actually gets beat up in fight with Garner in the episode, which wouldn't have occurred in real life 8-) .

Garner was married for 56 years to the same lady. Ya don't see that much in Hollywood. He was just as advertised. A fine citizen and family man first and a fine actor second...
