MMB Trading Post?

Unread post by HkyMtneer » Sat Mar 21, 2015 5:28 pm

First, I apologize if this has been asked/addressed previously, and for some reason I feel as if I may have, at one time or another, asked this myself, either on the board or directly of an admin.

I am curious about the viability of a MMB Trading Post forum or sub-forum, much in the vain of the ticket exchange. I've been busy doing some "spring cleaning" this weekend and have come across a few ASU items that I am wanting to part with (jacket, polo, some programs, etc.) and have always previously listed these items on Ebay and usually had pretty decent success.

That having been said, I sometimes feel as if I'd like to give the board first dibs on these items in a "make me an offer" or "here's my asking price" format. A deal could then be worked out between the two parties via the message system or private email.

I assume a trading post would need to be isolated to ASU merch or similar to keep the focus narrowed. I imagine when trying to rid ourselves of spare memorabilia, etc. it might be nice to target the demographic at it's core, and possibly save some Ebay fees and such in the process.

This idea may not be feasible, or have any support, or simply be another forum requiring time spent administering but I thought I'd at least ask, and gauge support. I know that localized trading posts have become extremely popular on Facebook (I'm a member of a few Catawba County geographic ones myself) so the idea of a MMB forum for selling/buying/bartering doesn't seem too far-fetched.

Thoughts?

A froum is easy to create if the interest is there.

The idea has potential. I'd be interested to see some of the vintage gear and memorabilia everyone has.

Would we have to keep it to just ASU items, not meaning other teams, but non sports related items?

I don't have anything to sell that I can think of, and I don't know about buying but I would prefer to see it stay App specific which would also include conferences App has been a part of (North State, NorPac, Southern, Sun Belt) as long as App is mentioned somewhere. NAIA and NCAA mentions of App would also be good to go.

We have eBay for everything else
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

That tended to be my thought. I know lots of us have things we'd love to get rid of, but I think if we could manage to keep it ASU related it would best serve the idea, at least initially. As far as buying, I'd love to have first dibs on Mountaineer items before they make it into a garage sale, onto Ebay, or even worse into the trash (another man's treasure...) I think it'd be especially useful for those of us who collect certain items. We could create a posting saying something like "ASU Football Programs For Sale"(a specific item I have historically collected) and then list our inventory, deleting as sold, adding as available. And there would be no charge for items to just sit there in a posting for a while, unlike Ebay, which would be a plus.
