Ads are killing my experience here

Unread post by Saint3333 » Tue Sep 08, 2015 12:42 pm

Can we kill the ads on this site, I'd gladly pay my share to make the site user friendly again?

I thought it was IE, but now chrome is glitchy as well.

I try and avoid using ad-block especially at a free site since I know that helps pay for the server fees (in part) and I don't begrudge anyone trying to break even on this. I seem to be able to filter out the ads but on this site they really bog down the loading of pages to the point of being - well I may install ad block.

I use ABP (ad block plus) and NoScript and I have no problems on any website when it comes to things loading that I don't want to load. I pick and choose what I want to load. I recommend both as its like putting safety gear on your PC before it jumps in to the flames of the inter-webs. I've never seen a single ad on this site.

I can't get on here on my phone any more without it jumping off the site to some app store download or some other crap. Totally unusable.

Well there are no ads now. That works though I know that helps pay the bill here and I would prefer to keep this place free. I did not do anything so I assume the mods turned off ads for now.

Unfortunately that's not an our site thing - that is an apple thing (to my knowledge).

Ads haven't been turned off - they are still running out of most people's views. Over the last 3-4 days traffic has continued to mount. We have hit all time highs seemingly all year long, which shows the support Appalachian has going into this season! In high traffic times - it can mean the website loads a bit slower, but it should not be much slower than at off peak times. If it is, please let me know.

And the ads are back. I had one post that loaded nicely without distractions, though this is ok with the amount and type.

I promise not to ad-block you if it stays like this.

I am not opposed to capitalism, but this situation is really bad. Could we donate instead of being forced to endure?

Thanks for the head's up. It was terrible on Saturday, but cleared up on Sunday.
