I think they also show, quite clearly, they had no intention of a government that suppresses the expression of one's religious views even while performing duties as a public servant.
I agree 100%. To believe that someone could perform their public duties without being influenced by their personal beliefs is ridiculous. And I don't believe anyone's personal expression of their views has ever been, or ever should be suppressed. But the government as an entity should never, ever be involved in, or be used for the promotion of one particular denomination or sect.
