I've been asked to help get a tekkie gift for a special person in our family. Xbox 360 came up in brainstorming conversation. What are the essential components we'd need to buy for a neat system? What are the prerequisets that will be necessary? What games are hot these days? Many thanks for the help!

If you want to spend a little more I would get the kinect bundle. It will come with the xbox, a kinect unit (which is like a motion sensor), and probably a couple of games. You can pick it up at your local Walmart, or search for a better deal on Amazon. The most popular games are "Call of Duty: Black Ops II", "Halo 4", and "Assassins Creed 3". be warned that these are all rated "M" for mature. If he's younger he would probably enjoy NCAA 13, so he could play as the Apps. (:

Be sure not to buy the bundle that has only 4GB of memory which is inadequate....You should buy the 250GB unit or bundle .

Ha Blacksaturday beat me to the GB comment. I agree with Moody Jr. Check out xbox live as well. Online play is a key part to most games these days. When the gift receiver isn't using it for games you can stream things like hulu and netflix. While I'm no fan of having to pay to have a product access internet that you already pay for, I will say that the xbox online community tends to be a bit better since the player feels "invested" in their monthly play time. If you want some game suggestions it would be easier if you reveal the age of the person. As Moody Jr. said, some of the best games are not for kids. If the person wants to be able to play with a second person I would also suggest a 2nd controller as they don't typically put a second controller in most bundles.
