My freshman son has a 2000 Toyota Camry that may need to visit a mechanic. Can I get a reliable, good priced recommendation in case he needs to have it towed somewhere? Thanks.

I like 421 auto, as far as I can like any mechanic. On old 421.

I asked this same question 3 years ago for my daughter.

She used Alray once or twice. Seemed fine but I can't say they were the cheapest. They do support App.

Over the summer she took a car to the mechanic very near the Children's Place which is behind the Uniterian Universalist church. Given what was wrong with the car and the price I felt good about how it went down. I have no idea of the name. I can ask her.

I'll also add: the corner station at the clusterFlip of 4/321 and 105 is allegedly super affordable. An intern at the company I work just had all brakes and rotors replaced for <$450.... also, I would be more than willing to help any of yall's kids out with car issues. I'm no ,mechanic, but I really can do enough of anything to be dangerous. My wife and I have been known to buy batteries/tow/tow in the snow/and just generally help out. What's the actual issue with the car?

No one is “cheap” really. It comes down to who you trust, as all the prices are pretty much the same.

Alray is good, and as mentioned earlier, huge App supporters. Go visit their bus in the cul-de-sac near the market in stadium.
I would also add the Kelly Brothers near new market center. Sharp mechanics and honest as best as I can tell.

Alrays is great and my first choice, but they are terribly backlogged: victims of their own success. Kelly brothers are decent too.

May be fuel pump, sounds like problem I had and that was culprit

Keeping it simple, how old is the battery?

Alternator solenoid or brushes.

Shoulda been some commas in there, but that's my guess.

Not sure how old the battery is, it came with the used car. He bought it about a year and a half ago.

I am no mechanic but since everyone is tossing out ideas here is mine.

Being from the south I also "crank" a car, which drives my transplanted NY wife crazy as the crank has been gone for a century. But maybe he is turning the crank counter clockwise instead of clockwise?

Also check the carburetor. Those things don't last forever.

Again I am not a mechanic.

I am no mechanic but I would see if jumper cables and a boost get it started. If it does, get a new battery and perhaps no mechanic will be needed.

Would a 2000 Camry have a carburetor? It is probably fuel injected. Sounds like he might have a bad cell in the battery. He can pop the covers off the top and see if one or more are low on water. But I agree with CVAPP, put some cables on it and see if it will jumpstart. My uncle and Grandpa were mechanics and they always told me that a good battery will charge itself overnight.

I was joking about a carburetor. That is is the only part of an engine beside the crank itself that is no longer on cars as far as I know.

At least I assume a 2000 auto would be fuel injection.
