I don't know how to link this information as it comes to me through an online newsletter called Higher Education Works. At any rate it says:

"Until 1931, the single campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was governed by a 100 person Board of Trustees elected by the General Assembly and chaired by the governor."

Talk about cumbersome...100 members. Geez.
