I don't know. I'm watching the VCU/Richmond game on CBS Sports Network. Great game.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooboy, you are not imagining that! And it's not new. It goes back to 1966 at least--to all-everything Charlie Scott at UNC. Great kid, great skills, but walked every time he touched the ball, but no "traveling" calls! None! Ever! In fact, I do believe that's the one and only Lennie Wirtz trailin' this play and trying to swallow his whistle. Scott is 40 feet from the rim. but has already picked up his dribble, Hes' planning to walk a few steps to get in his comfort zone for a 15 footer. Never fear--Wirtz wasn't about to stop play, make a traveling call on Charlie and award the ball to the bad guys!
Dean always had the ACC refs over a barrell! Always!

Re: ACC BB
Favoritism? By ACC officials? In 2013?? Surely you jest! (don't call me shirley!)....
Find a video of unc games in the 60's and 70's and watch. Lou Bello, Lenny Wertz, Ralph Stout, Dan Woolridge, Joe Forte....they were some of the most well known officials and the holes got more than a pass on calls at crucial times. Even when the David Thompson's crowd whipped everyone the holes would still get breaks.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I wonder if we all attended and lived in a mid major kinda school in Utah somewhere would we say the UNC always gets all the calls??? Things that make ya go hummmmmmmm...

Re: ACC BB
AppGrad1...I have no idea how old you are but I can assure you that in the 1960's and 70's the holes and Heir Smith received the benefit of calls and no calls. I recall one game in particular one night when they were at NCSU. State had a great player named Ed Leftwich who was eating Charlie Scott's cookies in the first half. Got 3 fouls on him in short order and he sat the rest of the half. Not a single foul called on Scott the entire 2nd half but Leftwich fouled out. I watched the game and I know what I saw, not just perceived.
That being said Go Apps! I hope they win a basketball championship and will believe they can until beaten out. Also, A. B. C. in the ACC.

I go back in the 60s and 70s.
I'm just saying that every school gets calls. If you are an anti UNC fan then UNC gets all calls.
If you are an anti Kentucky fan then Kentucky gets all the calls.
I can name many calls for UNC and many against UNC.
Last year in the Duke game at UNC Zeller got pushed in the back in front of the ref and he actually tipped the ball in his own basket going for the rebound. Plumlee just pushed him and it was a no call.
1 play before that Curry caught the ball and ran 3 steps and shot a 3 and hit it.
UNC lost by 1.
Yes, UNC gets calls and so do ALL others... Just depends on where you stand on who gets the calls and who doesn't...

Can we designate Appgrad1 our resident UNC defender?AppGrad1 wrote:I go back in the 60s and 70s.

I consider myself an ABCer and an ABDer, but I tend to agree with AppGrad1. The people who are so quick to claim the referees have a bias are usually the ones with the real bias.HeffnerIV wrote:Can we designate Appgrad1 our resident UNC defender?AppGrad1 wrote:I go back in the 60s and 70s.

We've had these discussions before. Can we designate you as our resident Duke defender too?

Yea I hope they win. I won't pitch a fit if they don't. Grew up a UNC fan before I'd ever heard of ASU. Went to ASU and glad of it. ASU is #1 and UNC is #2.HeffnerIV wrote:Show me one time I've defended Duke. Many believe you can't pull but for one school. I don't believe that at all. Both are in different divisions.
Tonight = Go Heels.
Rest of the year = Go ASU!

Really? App is playing well in the Soon tournament, the baseball team is playing a big series, and oh yeah, we are a step from gaining admission to the Sun Belt, and, we are talking about this? Wow. Wow.

Yea, when ya lose 4 first round NBA players last year it kinda becomes a rebuilding year. I'll take that.ASU-FTW wrote:Watching UNC get their ass kicked never gets old.
Being in 3rd place is actually a successful season for the Tar Heels this year.
NC State is the one who underachieved.

No doubt. Ranked 6th to begin the season. I think they are a reach for the NCAA Tournament.

Seems I recall Kentucky was preseason #4 in the country too. How'd that turn out?ASU-FTW wrote:AppGrad1 wrote:Yea, when ya lose 4 first round NBA players last year it kinda becomes a rebuilding year. I'll take that.ASU-FTW wrote:Watching UNC get their ass kicked never gets old.

Teams like Duke, Kentucky, UNC and other big name colleges are ranked on 2 things. Name and potential in freshman (who have never played a game in college) unless they have a team of returning players. Duke is starting 4 returning players this year as did UNC last year.
Anyone who knows anything about college basketball knows this.
If preseason rankings mean so much let's look at ASU football preseason rankings since 2007. Do ya think we were ever ranked on ASU hype? Seems to me we haven't even played a 2nd game in the playoffs in years...
ASU has been ranked in football in Hype only since winning 3 straight NC's.
Preseason rankings are only for fodder... IMO
UNC lost 4 starters to the NBA. That's 80%.
What if ASU football lost 80% of it's starters in football. They would (rounded off) be returning 4 starters in football. Would we expect to have a top 5 team with 4 returning starters? Food for thought...
By dogging UNC's failures because of preseason rank is just like dogging our own ASU football. They are in the same boat together...
