Tiger Woods Suffers Serious Trauma Injuries

Unread post by asu66 » Tue Feb 23, 2021 3:09 pm

...in approx 7 AM single-car multiple roll-over accident north of LA (Rancho Palos Verdes) near Long Beach...several blocks from the ocean-side. As of 3 PM EST, he remained in surgery with extensive lower body injuries. Had to be extracted from luxury SUV with LAFD jaws of life.

Agent says he is in surgery now for multiple leg injuries

https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/30 ... olls-crash

Single car wreck. Flipped his vehicle at least on its side. Glad no one else was involved but given his history with pain meds and such I'm sure there will be some sort of investigation. He was recovering from back surgery. I'd guess this will do it for his career.

This should link to the video of the flipped SUV

The more I'm seeing from the different videos, this guy is lucky as hell to be alive.

That car travelled a long way before it came to rest. He must have been going fairly fast.

Seeing him on Sunday at the Genesis (on TV), he looked like he was high on something. He needs some good friends to have a serious conversation with him if he’s hooked on pain meds (or anything else) again. And why the hell is he driving himself?!?

I try not to jump to conclusions and I’m not a crash investigator but as I watch the video it just doesn’t smell right. I am with you on your suspicions. I’m thinking the guy was on meds and fell asleep at the wheel. Way too early in the morning.

LA County Sheriff's Dept reports vehicle running at high rate of speed on a steep downhill grade complete with runaway truck ramps, with car leaving roadway, going airborne, crashing and rolling x number of times. Officer reports injuries are severe but apparently non-life-threatening. Per LACSD, no salacious evidence was initially noted or collected. Jaws of life were not required...was pulled out through windshield opening. Unable to get out on his own!

Per officers on scene, investigation could take several weeks or more to complete.

Hate to hear this for Tiger. He’s the only reason I ever got into watching golf. Seeing someone dominate like he did is something I’m glad I was able to witness. I hope he gets well as soon as he can. He’s probably done with golf after this.

Ben Hogan had his brush with death. Then became legend.

I am pretty sure those were different circumstances in a different era.

All I can say is that here's praying for Tiger and his family. Golf, at this point is way down the list.

He was told he would be lucky to walk again and he became golfs greatest champion and is still revered by many today as it’s finest technician. Of any era.

My point is this is it for the GOAT competitively. The amount and quality of the younger talent on tour these days is well beyond what Ben competed against when he returned to the game.
This is largely because Tiger elevated the game and made it cool and extremely lucrative to play golf for a living. There is simply no way he will recover and become a dominant force again.

Tiger is also 9 years older than Hogan was at the time of his crash, and he just had his 5th back surgery. He was already on borrowed time due to his back so this will make it very difficult to come back from.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Early this AM I watched a short video interview with Tiger's best friend (who's not a pro golfer) that a So. Cal. TV station shot at the UCLA-Harbor Trauma Center where Tiger is in intensive care. He said all of Tiger's thoughts during his lucid, waking moments (he's being heavily sedated to keep him still) are devoted to concern for the care and nurturing of his son and daughter and his concern about learning to walk again. He said golf isn't even in discussion. Tiger has earned multi-generational wealth with his winnings and his endorsements but his concerns for now and for the foreseeable future are for things that money really cannot buy.

Tiger's been told that he's fortunate to be alive. The LA County High Sheriff said yesterday that the car missed a steel telephone tower by mere inches. He said the car would have been cut in half if it had rolled into the tower. His opinion was that Tiger's life was saved only because the car's passenger compartment withstood multiple violent impacts.
