Officer down - Boone

Unread post by moonshine » Wed Apr 28, 2021 11:08 am

Please be advised that the public is warned to stay away from the Browns Chapel Rd and Hardaman Cir. area as it is currently blocked off. Being reported that an officer has been shot and suspect is at large. If you live in the area, authorities are advising residence to stay inside and lock your doors. Stay safe App fam!

Many prayers for this officer. Having responded to several of these "officer down" situations as a paramedic, you heart gets a shock. Lord, be with this and all officers and the responders going to help.

Not a good sign but those teams are top-notch at providing comfort and support to grief-stricken individuals, families and organizations.

Someone 'splain to me why the WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL found it necessary to mention that the home under heavy siege by law enforcement is just six miles from the ASU campus? So what, Mr. Editor? Your point????

I’m sure every crime they report in Winston they say is 1 mile from Wake’s campus...right?

"The Watauga County Sheriff's Office confirmed the names of the two officers who received gunshot wounds at the beginning of the situation. Sergeant Chris Ward died after being flown to John City Medical Center, while K-9 Deputy Logan Fox remains on the scene. His condition is unknown at the time."

If anyone knows the families just let them know everyone is thinking about/praying for them.

As far as the situation goes I have to wonder if the person has hostages.

In W-S there are plenty of other locations to reference such as the old RJR factory near the fairgrounds or the fairgrounds themselves or x miles from Old Salem. That sort of location dropping is not going to happen as easy in a more rural county with a really big location in the middle of the county.

It stating it is 6 miles away sounds like it is saying the campus is safe compared to this happening on 105 for example.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

I don’t know what they had in the Journal, but the story I saw in the Observer said “about six miles,” which answers a question I had, and probably alleviates concerns parents may have (with my daughter at VCU, no telling what goes on six blocks from campus, much less six miles). It was also pretty far down in the story, which tells me they weren’t using it to sensationalize anything. Now, change that “about” to “just” and put it in the leed, then there is cause to be ticked.

But that said, it’s the least thing to be concerned about at the moment. Sad. Sad, all around.

"I live about 5 minutes from the house. It has really caused a stir here. From what I understand the cops were notified that both parents didn't show up for work, and they went out for a wellness check. Upon arrival, they saw the parents vehicles and proceeded to the house. As soon as they went to the door, the 20 year old son shot the two deputies. They took one to Johnson City TN, and I'm not sure his status, but it wasn't looking good. The other is still in the house. It is assumed that the other deputy inside is not alive, and that the boy killed his parents. It's really awful. I have listened to helicopters and scirenes all day, while everyone has been checking on us. I went to tractor supply and saw a female Boone police officer crying her eyes out in the parking lot. It just breaks my heart, because our community is so tight. It's been a bad day."

Pulled this from the comments section of an article. I can't verify its story but just passing it along.

I didn’t want to speculate but what you wrote is what I suspect.
