June 6, 1944
Today is the 69th anniversary of D-Day. Not too many of those guys still around and it seems most of the country has all but forgotten what they did. The more I read about them, the more amazed I am at what they were able to do on the beaches at Normandy. Truly, they were The Greatest Generation.

Re: June 6, 1944
We can also add to this date in 1942 the US Navy's resounding victory at the Battle of Midway. We sent 5 Japanese carriers to sleep with the fishes and sent what was left of their fleet back to Japan with their collective tails between their legs.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Four Japanese carriers were sunk near Midway.
The fifth carrier sunk was ours.

Re: June 6, 1944
To GoApps70: I stand corrected. The 5th ship was the Mikuma. I can't believe I missed that, having watched the movie "Midway" at least 2 dozen times over the years.
Imperial Japanese Navy Losses
3,057 killed
Aircraft Carrier Akagi
Aircraft Carrier Kaga
Aircraft Carrier Soryu
Aircraft Carrier Hiryu
