Charlotte Hornets fans
For those that have suffered through the past 25 years of being a Hornets/Bobcats fan, this season has been fun, especially the past 20 games. Since Jan 15, they've beaten 5 of the top 6 teams in the West and just punked the Celtics in Boston by 29. They're 20-2 when Kon, Ball, Bridges, Diabate and Miller all start. In the past 19 games, they've won 16. The three losses were the game where Diabate and Bridges were ejected and 2 of the following 4 they were suspended.

Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
It's been fun to actually care about them again. I was in Charlotte last weekend and got to catch their game against Portland. Certainly a team no one is going to want to face in the playoffs if they can get in. For the first time in forever, it feels like they're building something and not just hoping the lottery falls in their favor (which it never seems to do).

Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
They're only 2.5 games out of 6th. At their current trajectory, I expect them to finish 5th or 6th and bypass the play-round. They are 5 games above the 11th place team, so think they are in really good position to make the playoffs at a minimum. In March, they have 4 games against the 3 teams just ahead of them, so could pass them all if they stay healthy.

Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
When Charlotte moved to New Orleans it really killed the franchise.
I bet Tepper would move the Panthers if he did not own the stadium. It still makes me mad that he took some of the dirt out that was from all of the counties in North and South Carolina.

Haven’t followed them since Allan Bristow was the coach and Muggsy, Dell Curry and Alonzo were playing. I followed the Carolina Cougars closely, though, in the early 70s when they had their pre-season practices in Broome-Kirk gym. ABA with the red, white and blue ball. They were exciting to watch with the Kangaroo Kid, Big Jim Chones and Jumping Joe Caldwell. I watched Caldwell jump over a Volkswagen in the Charlotte Coliseum.

Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
I cut English class 5 times in a row to watch the Cougars practice, then had to go beg Dr. Melton to let me catch up. It wasn’t easy. Thankful to Coach Larry Brown for letting us in to watch.
Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
This team is so darn fun to watch. Things really started turning around for this franchise once Jordan sold the team. If they stay healthy, the Hornets are very dangerous.

Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
I lived in Charlotte when they started play as an expansion team. Read they still have the record for most consecutive sellouts. That “old” arena was awesome and games were a blast. Me and a couple of buddies bought the cheapest upper level tickets and never sat up there. For years no ushers checked tickets. We also often went to some local restaurants who offered deals to include buying a meal and you got a free shuttle to and from the game. Buses took a back route and dropped off fans at the entrance. Helluva deal for a $5 burger in the mid 80’s.

Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
Currently in 8th with 4 games left: Minnesota, Boston, Pistons and Knicks. 1 game behind 7th place 76ers and 1.5 games behind Raptors (play Celtics today). Both 76ers and Raptors probably have 2 losses left on their schedule, so Hornets need to go 3-1 at least to close out the season and have a shot at the 6 seed, avoiding the play in round. Pistons and Knicks may be locked into their seed by the time the Hornets play them, so they could be resting starters which would make 3-1 a little more attainable. At worst, we need to hold onto the 8th seed as it will put us in a double elimination seed in the play in game instead of the single elimination 9 and 10 seeds.

Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
I don't follow enough to keep up but when was the last time the Hornets made the playoffs? Seems like it has been some years, even with the amount of teams that make the playoffs. This is a good thing as the more success the Hornets and Panthers have the less attention there will be on UNCC athletics. Charlotte only has so much athletic attention span to go around.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Re: Charlotte Hornets fans
I cut a few classes to watch them in BKG as well. I mean realistically: Daisy Eggers' English class or Cougar practices. Joe Caldwell, Jim Chones, Doug Moe, Mike Lewis, Ted "Hound Dog" McClain, "Easy" Ed Manning, Steve Previs, Cunningham, Mack Calvin. I found out much later that their athletic trainer was Tracy James who became a legend here in SC and retired as the atheltic trainer at Summerille High School. I got to talk Carolina Cougar basketball with him quite often.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 9:52 pmI cut English class 5 times in a row to watch the Cougars practice, then had to go beg Dr. Melton to let me catch up. We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.
