US 2, Mexico 0
The United States looks to be on its way to the World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Mexico. The Americans didn't play their best, but Mexico has fallen on hard times, for sure. I don't follow soccer as closely as many here, but I really would like to see us win a World Cup during my lifetime.

Edited to fix the headline score. Old newsroom advice: Make all mistakes in small print.

Re: US 2, Mexico 2
Finally found this after 10 days.hapapp wrote:T-Dog was there to witness it. We need a report when he returns!

Game was nuts. The American supporters group sections off a couple city blocks a half-mile from the stadium for pregame. It was a hipster's paradise, but with freedom rather than scorn. I was in the march to the match which had about a couple thousand people. The Mexican fans set up at the game we were trying to march in and it almost turned into something with us chanting "you're not going to Brazil" and they calling us pendejo's and such. The guy behind me had a lit flair and was waving it around.
Game was constant energy. It was 90 degrees during the day so the 75 at night felt great. Mexico has no creativity in the midfield. After the first 20 minutes it was over. The first goal was bedlam, but the second goal was like terrordome. I've never seen so much liquid fly in pure happiness. I don't think the Dos A Cero chants stopped for the rest of the night after that. An hour after the game, Panama and Honduras drew which punched the ticket for Brazil so there was even more celebration. I might have earned the scorn of the entire nation of Mexico on Telemundo with some of my broken Spanish. I'm also pretty sure all Mexican TV stations hire supermodels to do sideline reporting. And remember, it was hot that day and they dressed accordingly.

It was funny that despite being wanded by security going in and seeing bomb-sniffing dogs, hidden riot-gear stations and concessions pouring all drinks into plastic cups and throwing away all plastic bottles that a lot of people still got flairs into the game and used them after each goal.

Man that was fun. I also found out they sell liquor at regular stores in Ohio.

Re: US 2, Mexico 0
Great write up T-Dog. The US National Team bring it to another level. I saw them play Belize in Portland, OR earlier this summer and while Timbers games are very high energy, the USMNT took it to a different level.
This was the second time that I have seen the USMNT and it did not disappoint. Interestingly, both times that I have seen them, a US player has scored a hat trick. Landon Donovan vs. Ecuador in Tampa in 2007 and Wondo"w"lowski in 2013.
Cheers.
