Pop-up ads
Is anyone else experiencing the annoying pop-up ads on the Cabin? Makes it nearly impossible to navigate the forums on the iphone. Everytime I click on a thread a pop-up loads directing me to the Apple App store...

Re: Pop-up ads
Yup.
Also, I have to log into the site from my iPhone each time I look at a different website. (The "log in automatically" function doesn't work.)

I have the same on both my iPad and iPhone, but not my work computer, which is a Dell.

I don't know if its the ads (pretty sure it is), but the sites performance is super slow. It constantly causes Shockwave to crash and takes a tons of resources.
If you are using the ads to cover your costs for the server, I will be more than happy to host the site on my server for free and take the ads off.

Re: Pop-up ads
Everybody knows how many times a day I have to work the site and edit pages. I've found that the only way I can do it now is by using Chrome as my browser with AdBlock installed. If I don't things go off the deep end and I can get no work done. If I was having issues I would look into what blocker extensions are available for your favorite browser. It works for me.AppStateNews wrote:I don't know if its the ads (pretty sure it is), but the sites performance is super slow. It constantly causes Shockwave to crash and takes a tons of resources.

Re: Pop-up ads
Thanks for posting about this stuff! I can't address the issues if I don't know about them. I'm looking into both the ad issue as well as the iphone/ipad issue. It's really a pain because I honestly don't get any video/audio ads playing and I don't use any adblocking software. It loads quickly on my machine but I use IE and Firefox most of the time and every computer setup is slightly different and can lead to different performance experiences.
As far as the logout issue iphone/ipads, I will look into it (I have the same problem on my iphone though I rarely use it to access the site - I use the tapatalk app which works great for me). I'm wondering if it's a security thing on Apple devices. Does anyone have a non-apple device which does not have any problems keeping you logged in if you visit different websites?

Also - there should NOT be any pop up ads at all. Do you only get pop-up ads on the Apple products or is anyone experiencing those pop up ads on non-apple products?AppDawg wrote:Is anyone else experiencing the annoying pop-up ads on the Cabin? At times, I use my android devices (Galaxy S5 and Samsung Note tablet) to read the board. I would say I have no problems 99% of the time.Yosef wrote:Thanks for posting about this stuff! Re: Pop-up ads
My issues on my iPhone started about six weeks ago. Prior to that, no issues. Lately (in the last week), I'm not haven't to re-log in as frequently, but it's still happening occasionally.

Re: Pop-up ads
When using my iPad to view the site I will probably have to reenter my log in info about every 15th time I enter the site. Sometimes it will come up to the login screen and I can just hit the login button and it will work even though nothing is displayed in the login fields. The most annoying issue with the iPad is when I click on a topic and I am immediately transferred to the App Store to purchase a 3rd party app that I did not click on. This is happening less frequently, but it still happens.

Re: Pop-up ads
I have added AdBlock Plus on Chrome and it increased performance tremendously! I can actually see what I am typing now...
My question is if you have to use AdBlock in order to make the site work correctly, why even have the ads as the AdBlock takes away the ad impressions -- resulting in no income for that visit.
I understand wanting/needing the ads to cover the costs associated, but like I said, I would be more than happy to host the site 100% free so there would not be a need for ads at all.

Re: Pop-up ads
Most people do not use AdBlock so it's really a non-issue. I did implement a change about 20 minutes ago that should boost performance for those that still had some site loading time issues (Adblock or not). Hopefully a few people can either confirm or deny that since about 2:35 today, their pages are loading much quicker. I also have a lot of work I'll be doing this weekend to help improve performance as well.AppStateNews wrote:I have added AdBlock Plus on Chrome and it increased performance tremendously! As I'm sure you're aware, moving the site to an entirely different host is a HUGE undertaking ripe for lost data and problems galore. If we can't fix these issues with some of the things we're working on, we can certainly explore that option in greater detail. Thanks for the support!

Re: Pop-up ads
APPsolutely! As long as this site is using cpanel hosting though, the transfer would be seamless. But, yes, I agree it would be better to try to fix the issues rather than move it. Just want you to know the option is there should it be needed!Yosef wrote: Most people do not use AdBlock so it's really a non-issue. Re: Pop-up ads
I have had the issue on my iPad of being sent to the App Store, though it does not happen the majority of the time.
On my Droid phone, I have occasionally gotten a dialogue box that appears to be spyware/malware.
As far as having to log back in, my experience has been if I go directly to the message board, I'm not logged in. But if I go to the home page first (or tap the homepage icon at the top of the screen from the message board), then it keeps me logged in.

Re: Pop-up ads
Sorry for the delayed response. The site has been inaccessible from my iphone for the last day. When I say "pop-up" ad, what it is doing is after I click on a thread link on the Cabin the correct page opens, but the page continues to "load". less than 5 seconds later a new page will open up as though I clicked on a link on the cabin page - but I didn't. I'd say 30% of the time it goes to another website and 70% of the time it opens the app store. Everytime (regardless if new page or jumping to app store), it requires hitting the back button to return to the cabin page, which most times results in returning to the main MMB page which starts the vicious cycle all over or it logs me out.Yosef wrote:Also - there should NOT be any pop up ads at all. I have not had problems on my desktop & cannot speak to tablets or other smartphone brands.

Identical issues here.

Re: Pop-up ads
Adjustments were made while the site was down - let me know if you experience any more of those issues. Sounds like the only problems are really on Apple products, which helps isolate the issue making it easier to address.AppDawg wrote:Sorry for the delayed response. I was bumped off Wednsday and had to get a new password but that is the only time I have had a problem. Using Int explorer on an HP laptop.Yosef wrote:Thanks for posting about this stuff!
