Steve Byrnes lost his battle with cancer today. Way too soon at 56. Thoughts and prayers to Karen, Bryson, and the entire Byrnes family. Honestly don't have words right now except to say you will be missed. Rest easy now. No more pain.

Do you know what his connection to App was? It's very clear from all of the posts on Twitter from our players and coaches that he was close to the program.
He always seemed like one of the more genuine guys covering NASCAR.

His family's season tickets were just in front of mine.
I'm sure somebody on the board knows more about his story. But, I believe a lot of his App State fandom came from his son. That kid loves Appalachian and Steve absolutely loved his son.
His son, Bryson, is the sweetest kid. I said something he disagreed with at one of the games. Bryson heard me, turned around and corrected me. He knows more about the team than most of us. After that, he'd always be talking to our group.
Really nice family.

I believe his son, Bryson, has been to several summer football camps... A QB. (12 years old)

JT: I spoke with riceman61 last night and he said the Steve loved ASU football, had season tickets, his son had been to quite a few games. If I recall correctly he also mentioned another relative is enrolled and that made a big hit with him and his family as well.
