Cam's new contract breaks the record for a three year contract.

Newton not only got a mega-deal from the Panthers, it's one of the biggest the NFL has ever seen. Newton will make $67.6 million in the first three years of his five-year, $103.8 million deal, according to multiple reports. The deal became official on Tuesday.

That would be the largest payout over the first three years of a deal in NFL history, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said. USA Today's Tom Pelissero said Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger held the record at $65 million. The deal includes $60 million in guarantees for injuries, according to reports.

I like the structure of the contract personally.

I feel really good about the upcoming season. It will look like a bargain getting it done before the season started if we go to the Superbowl this year.

I think Gettleman knows what he's doing. Sometimes you have to just sack up and pay the man. At one point we were paying Julius Peppers more than any football player in the country.

Brett Jensen (certified moron) was on TV last night bashing the deal, saying the Panthers didn't have to do this now as he still had this year under contract and the next two could be franchised. His "reasoning" was that $60 million is too much guarantee.

Mike Florio (certified DB, but not a moron) said this morning that the deal actually saves the Panthers money as it would have cost more to pay him this year and two franchise tags.

The fact is, Cam is a top QB talent in the NFL. Top QB talent gets paid big bucks in the NFL. The so-called "fans" bashing this deal have either 1) forgotten 2010 or 2) don't like the "type" (code word) of QB play Cam gives the Panthers.

If Cam continues on the trajectory he has been on, he will become an elite QB in this league. He did something this year (winning back-to-back NFCS titles) that Drew Brees hasn't done. The man has earned his big pay day, and Panthers fans should be ecstatic to finally have a legit franchise QB.

Cheap as it was going to get.

Only $45M of the deal is new guaranteed money. They were paying him $15M in 2015 no matter what.

Three years from now Cam will be the 7th or 8th highest paid QB and that'll be about right.

Wilson, and especially Luck are about to crush his deal.
