Former Utah All-American and ABA/NBA star Luther "Ticky" Burden has passed away in his adopted home, Winston-Salem, NC. He was only 63. Some of you will remember Burden's breakout season with the ABA's Virginia Squires and his later accomplishments as a member of the NBA's New York Knicks.

Burden was a gifted player and an even better citizen--choosing to work with kids at Winston-Salem YMCAs over covering the seedy bar scene with some of his NBA team mates and their entourage of groupies.

For almost three decades, Burden has lived in Winston-Salem, teaching basketball to and coaching children at the Gateway YWCA. He suffered from ATTR amyloidosis, a disease that causes the body's immune system to produce abnormal forms of antibodies. He died Oct. 29, 2015. Burden was a truly good man.
