Not sure who all knows about this, but our golf team is on the way to San Francisco to play in The Goodwin at TPC Harding Park. The historical course has hosted top pro tournaments in the past including the WGC – American Express Championship in 2005, The Presidents Cup in 2009 and The Charles Schwab Cup Championship numerous times. This will be far and away one of the best fields the App golf team has played against. Teams include Stanford (tournament host), USC (as in So. Cal), Clemson, Ga. Tech, UGA and Oregon among others. This obviously is a great opportunity for the golf team to have a good showing at a historical venue against top-tier golf programs.

If you're so inclined, scoring can be followed here:

https://results.golfstat.com//public/le ... &tid=28835

Play takes place Thursday - Saturday.

Who wants to educate me about women's collegiate golf??? I saw our tournament score and it was 316. 316 divided by 4 is a 79. I would think we should be able to land 4 women golfers that could break 79. Are they playing from the red tees???

I would think with title 9 all of our ladies are on scholarship and I would think we could find 4 ladies that could go lower than 79 if they are playing from normal red tees. I could be really wrong and we/they may be playing longer harder courses than normal red tees.

I am genuinely curious if anyone knows the answer.

D1 and D2 Colleges can't fill WGolf scholarships. If you shoot low 80's and below chances are you're getting money.

Tournaments will set the yardage. I would bet D1 would be around 6100-6300 on average. Just for example LPGA is around 6400ish and 6700 for majors

Make no mistake these ladies can play and play better than most of us guys.

Also because of the PC era the red tees are now called the forward tees for everyone to use.

They do not play the red tees you see on the course. College women play white tee yardage.

The Spring is a tough time for App sports. Women's Tennis is the only team in the top half of the conference standings and they are 7th. Baseball is 9th and softball is 11th out of 12 teams.

If a girl can break 80 consistently, they can find a place to play golf collegiately. I'm all for giving people opportunities, but that's a pretty low bar if you ask me. You can thank title 9 for that. Ask our now defunct men's soccer program members how they feel about it.

Or ask all the women that never even had a chance to have a program be cut to begin with how that feel about that.

I hope you continue to defend real women playing their sport in the future and not allowing men to take their spots, I'll be beside you in that fight.

I tend to go back and forth on that issue and can see both sides. Hopefully in a few years we can find a happy medium where people can be themselves in their own skin, which is the larger issue for me, while having some level of sport that is fair as well. And that is not going to be an easy answer.

There is a VERY EASY ANSWER. It’s called TRUTH. Biological men compete against biological men…biological women compete against biological women.

Maybe, but I’ll take every chance to stand up for the protection of women sports. I’ve coached so many of them throughout the years and the confidence and life skills it provides them is unmatched in their early years.

At my peak I was a 9.4. I used to be a member at Highland Meadows GC where the LPGA Marathon Classic (I think it's OI now? Used to be the Jamie Farr) is played annually. They play the tips which is in the 6700 range, a couple of holes they will move up a tee box one of the days.

To watch these ladies play, it's a totally different game than what we do. The precision they have is unreal. Also, could not find a nicer group of athletes when it comes to interactions with the fans on the course. 100% class.
