I remember him well. A 63 yarder comes to mind.

Wow! That is one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever read. I hope he finds some help and some peace.

And that kick against Nicholls St. was good.

That's just horrible. Never heard about that happening to him until now.

It was, is, and always will be good. I remember that like it was yesterday.

Wasn't his ex-wife Sparky Woods daughter?

Wow that's awful. Loved him as a kicker I believe he kicked barefoot.

Tragic, tragic, tragic. Some will see this as an anti-football piece but in the end the NFL, and schools, are going to have to make sure all the players are educated. Again though, the guys have to know the risk they take. Country music fans will see the resemblance of Bjorn's plight to all of the Doug Supernaw stories except Doug has been messed up on drugs for years and claims the government is trying to kill him. Sad.

Wow! I had no idea. Very sad to hear.

I knew him well while at App as I was there at the same time. Great guy and a real sense of humor. A rock steady kicker for us with a booming leg. I believe he was the reason we started playing buglers dream on kick offs if I'm not mistaken.

I am shocked...... So sad
I might respect a lawyer if they took up his cause..... It wouldn't be easy but it would be a great gesture.

I knew through mutual friends that it was bad. Never in my most vivid imagination did I get the sense that it was this bad.

Bjorn and Mary Lois were and are fine human beings from good family backgrounds. Not certain I've ever been aware of a more stunning example of "Life isn't fair!" and "Bad things happen to good people!" in all of my many years of experience. Wishing God's Peace and Strength for the entire Nittmo family. Praying that someone, somewhere can be successful in reaching out to Bjorn and convincing him to accept quality professional eval and care.

Did not know the guy but my brush with him was memorable. I was in the Quinn working out and he came up and asked if he could work out with me. He cracked jokes and really pushed me harder than I wanted to work. Over 25 years ago and I still remember how sore I was the next day. Hate to hear this news.

He was the best but this comes from an '86 grad so I can't attest for those place kickers before '81. And no one was going to return a kickoff either. Very sad to hear of how things have turned out for him and his kids who doesn't have a dad in their lives.
