We all know the BOD's rendition of "The Tennessee Waltz" but here is the golden voice of the lady who made it famous.

RIP Patti Page

She was my parents' favorite singer. I have an autographed 45 of her singing the Tennessee Waltz. You might recall me several times defending our band's post game renditions.

Rep point, Mike.

When did the BOD start playing The Tennessee Waltz?
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

I started the fall of 1973 and remember them playing it sometime around then or maybe a couple years later. All I know is that it's become a tradition that I hope never fades. The senior band members at their last home game have to be very emotional when it's played.

I just finished my fourth year in the band. Cried like a baby :/ especially during the Waltz.

I'm a recent graduate (2010) and was in band all 4 years. I know I teared up my senior day during the Waltz and will still tear up at the end of games from time to time.

We even used it in our wedding!

Patti Page was a good one.

A friend of ours danced his father-daughter dance at his daughter's wedding to The Tennessee Waltz. What a sweet time!

I was in the band in '73 but I honestly don't recall playing that back then. It was started by our Director, Joe Phelps but I really think it was later than that.

There was a thread on the Sun Belt board (CSNbbs.com) recently about special things their football programs do. Middle Tennessee fans said their 350 member band plays The Tennessee Waltz at the end of every football game. You could tell it had an a huge impact on all their fans. Some said most of the people left in the stands stayed just to see it played.

Got to admit, I get really emotional when I stand at the end of a football game and listen to it. Some of my best memories. Don't know why, just powerful as can be. We should always play it, always.
