ODU played in the playoffs. They lost to stink in the QFs.

They declared "officially" after June 1st, thereby putting transition off for another year. Either way, we will be ineligible for FCS playoffs for one year, and ineligible for a bowl game for a year. 2 years of transition and no post season.
Once again NO. ODU is taking an extra year to transition to FBS because they did NOT schedule enough home FBS games for the 2013-2014 season to be FBS transitional. If we schedule at least 4 FBS home game, and count one FCS home game as our one allowed by the NCAA then in 2014-2015 we can be on our 2nd year of transition, which would be our FBS transitional team. Then in 2015-2016 we would be fully FBS, FBS conference eligible and FBS bowl eligible.

2013 is ODU's first transition year. In 2012 they had to get an At-large to the playoffs, because they declared their intent to transition to the CAA, who doesnt give such schools its autobid.

2013 they are FCS transitional, cannot be playoff eligible.

2014 they are FBS transitional, and bowl ineligible.

2015, they are fully fledged FBS.

There is no way of getting around 2 years of no post season .

I have no idea what youre going on about.

"There is no way of getting around 2 years of no post season."

While they can't get a bowl bid, they can compete for the CUSA championship and compete in the conference championship game so that's technically not true. We could be eligible for the Sun Belt championship in 2015 if we follow the same schedule.

Either way, I would HATE to see our seniors final year be squandered due to our aspirations.

Bam. Done. Look at that, no experience whatsoever, and Im still running circles around the a** clowns running the show.
One HUGE problem with your suggestion: it makes sense. Therefore, the NCAA would never consider it.

How much does the NCAA have to do with this? The BCS is not an official part of the NCAA, and that is the organization holding the cards. If every non-BCS school voted as a block to force all DI teams to be a part of either no-football, FCS, or FBS and both FCS and FBS will have a tourney of X number of teams what do you think would happen. Until the NCAA exerts that sort of control on all its members I don't see the NCAA being the problem here, just a subset of schools that are part of the NCAA. I think the colleges with the money (BCS Schools) would tell the NCAA to F' off and take their money with them and start a new organization and run their sports in the new organization with the backing of ESPN.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

So what - wait a year and squander next years seniors? A senior class will have to eat it. That's just the way it is.

Well, GlassOnion, you said, " I have no idea what youre going on about."

And once again NO. What you are saying is not true.

ODU did not schedule enough home FBS games for the 2013-2014 period, and there was the matter of a moratorium going on that you do not take into consideration.

This moratorium on the reclassification system was to let the NCAA streamline it. It did not affect schools in the third cycle of reclassification. Texas State and probably UTSA were ahead of them on the process, so TSA was not affected.

ODU obviously is going over the 63 scholarship threshold for 2013-2014, and therefore FCS playoff ineligible, that was their choice. We do not have to do that. ODU did receive the CUSA vote approval to vie for the CUSA title a year earlier while still in their FBS transitional year though. We may be allowed that privilege also if we get our conference's approval.

"No active Division I members will begin the athletics certification process from Aug. 1, 2011 until Aug. 1, 2013. Reclassifying members will remain subject to all athletics certification legislation throughout the moratorium period."

As I understand it, there would be a two-year period where we are ineligible for the FCS playoffs or an FBS bowl no matter what. Unfortunately, two senior classes are going to get stuck without postseason play regardless of when we officially begin the transition.

IMO, we are not in a position to wait any longer. If there is an opportunity to accept an FBS invite and get the process started, we should get underway as soon as possible. Telling the 2014 recruits that App will be full FBS by the time they are a sophomore would be a much easier sell than telling them the first two seasons of their college career will be transitional with no postseason.

I hate it for the kids who've given so much to our program but we have to look at the long-term. The quicker we can start competing for bowl bids, the quicker we can establish ourselves as an FBS program, which will allow us to recruit and schedule like one.

Take this for what it is (a rumor) but I just pulled this off the Sun Belt board. This is from an Arkansas State fan who is a frequent poster over there. A WKU fan posted later in the thread that he's heard the same thing. So many "for sure" rumors have been floated around the past few years that I'll believe it when I see a press conference but here it is:

WKU will be joining CUSA for the 2014 season. The Belt will be discussing the addition of App st and GSU along with the third addition being NMSU. This will put the conference back to 10/12 format.

West

ASU
UALR
ULM
Texas St
NMSU
UTA

East

TROY
USA
ULL
Georgia st
Georgia southern
App st

The divisions would be for basketball and presumably Olympic sports as well. Football would not be split into divisions but would be 9 conference games and 3 OOC.

Just speculation but fun nonetheless. Personally, I would not mind that set-up with two teams in the division that are bus trips or possibly three with Troy, who is the same distance from Boone as Samford.

Thoughts?

I believe the football team flies to Samford.

With all the equipment, etc. that they have, a flight for football would make sense.

Do you know about the other sports? I believe our weekend baseball series at Samford last year was a double-header Saturday and a Sunday game to give us time to drive, although I could be wrong about that.

Football plays so few games and generates enough revenue that travel for them shouldn't be an issue. The non-revenue sports is where it can really add up, so maybe they would do a bus trip for them. Not sure how they handle it for Samford but I'd assume we would do the same for Troy.

They need to fly. These guys are students, they dont need a ton of bus trips added to the schedule.

I bet Armanti is thanking his lucky stars that was not the case 2006-2009. I wonder how he takes to flying now that he's had to?

LOL, there is absolutely no reason on God's green earth, that justifies a posting from Titanic. Terrible move, just terrible!

It seems a lot of time with the other sports that the games with Samford are arranged with the games with Chattanooga and they knock them out with one long bus trip.

This.

Just for giggles, anyone know what initial cost and upkeep of a private jet would cost?

Spot on. We could hopefully do the same thing with Georgia State in this scenario, Atlanta is right in between Boone and Troy.

I think that even the FBS titans use charter jets so the cost must be way out there. I believe that most NFL teams use charters as well.

Yeah, Im seeing that now. Apparently flight is one area where it pays to outsource.

Next objective:

Acquire stimulus funding to build Maglev train from Boone to Atlanta and beyond.

I think we've got a real shot at this one gentlemen...
