Monday Morning at Work
One of the things about retirement is missing the Monday morning coffee break and sports talk.
How were our good ole "HOW BOUT THEM HEELS!" friends? Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall.....lol.

I haven't seen a single bit of UNC gear this week in my office.

Re: Monday Morning at Work
Sadly I'm in San Diego, so not a whole lot of talk on the game. There are as many Heels fans as there are App fans in the city, and SDSU, USC, and UCLA covers the gambit for CFB down here. There might be some USD fans for the FCS side of the house, but they don't really exist.

The apathy from their fanbase compared to their week two giddieness is amazing.
Their basketball season started at 8PM Saturday.

Re: Monday Morning at Work
I wore App shirts Sunday and yesterday and strangers would notice and shout support or talk to me about the game. I'm in the Triad so most people here are aware...lots of fun.
Got a nice shirt picked out for tomorrow since I'm going to a lunch thing. Hope there are Carolina people there!!

Re: Monday Morning at Work
I was at a Golf tournament today in Ballantyne, every other person said something about my App gear. One guy stopped me in the parking lot and said “Oh, you made sure to wear your App hat. I like it!” I told him I am always wearing an App hat, the outcome of the game Saturday had nothing to do with it. He proceeded to say he was one of those “split loyalty” grads from ‘75 and he grew up a Hole fan. He said he was happy, but felt bad for Carolina because the loss meant more to them than if we had lost. I gave him a baffled look.....I’m shocked how detached from App culture some of these folks are (Eric Church). He said if you had told him 30 years how big time App football is now, he wouldn’t believe it.
Well, sir, Welcome to the new reality, North Carolina’s best football is played at 3333 The Rock. Go App.

I'm baffled by those types as well; however, I would gladly welcome them back into the fold if they wanted to jump on board. Not meaning to brag, but it's fans like us, even though we disagree and snipe at each other at times (just like in most family situations), we support the team and have helped the program's success. If we weren't showing up on Saturdays in droves and sending dollars up the mountain, the program wouldn't be where it is. I'm so damn proud of our team and program, and proud to be part of it.appstatealum wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 2:18 pmI was at a Golf tournament today in Ballantyne, every other person said something about my App gear. Only engineers and master program physics/chemistry students here. (All the students are currently enrolled at App State). No blue of either shade. CEO is an NCSU grad, but I feel confident he was focused on other things.
Most of the interns I've spoken with today were in Chapel Hill.... even the ones that didn't have tix for the game.

Re: Monday Morning at Work
No split loyalties here. I grew up a huge Davidson fan since a) I loved basketball; b) my dad worked there; c) free passes and tickets to see Lefty and those great teams was something special. Once I was accepted to ASU and walked on campus that fall all allegiance to DC vanished like a fart in a whirlwind. Now the only time I pull for them is when ASU is not playing and they're doing well, like the Curry days in March Madness. Other than that.....no way.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: Monday Morning at Work
My 24 years of App State football has rubbed off on dozens of Philly friends.
After Penn State game last year they really have joined the App State football bandwagon.
8 years ago i had 24 family & friends come to a game for my 50th and they were amazed by how much fun the whole gameday is

Re: Monday Morning at Work
I was sharing a classroom with our new PE/Sports Med teacher. I asked if he followed college sports, and he does. And come to find out he attended UNC-CH for undergrad. I did not say too much as I was not trying to rub it in. He did comment that he did not want us to blow it by losing later in the year. I think he know if we run the table it will not look so bad for his Tar Heels.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.
