McNeese series cancelled, Campbell added to 2014

According to my conversation with an athletic official last night at the Triad stop, there was a clause in our contract with McNeese that allowed an "out" for any team moving up to FBS. That "out" stated that the game would not have to be bought out, but just cancelled.

And that addendum made back in 2008 just saved us 500K.

This switch makes sense, good change. NOT!!! Who thought this was a good move? We should have gone to McNeese and fulfilled that contract. All of our fans who talk trash about Charlotte's schedule should just shut up now. Campbell, real powerhouse!!! Butler High could probably beat them.

I don't see why you would switch one FCS for another. Esp a decent one for a awful one. If they did this to add an FBS to the schedule it would make sense. NOT to add the Camels.

If one of the positives of moving up was playing an improved schedule, this is not a step in the right direction.

You are still thinking with an FCS mindset. This move makes sense. We will already be playing almost our entire schedule against FBS teams so I don't see how you can say it's not a step in the right direction as far as playing an improved schedule. We already have Michigan that year and an entire SBC schedule. I hate to put it in these terms, but we could use a cupcake in there somewhere and McNeese is no cupcake. Start getting used to the idea that when we schedule an FCS team, it won't be the Montanas or McNeeses or NDSUs.

I would rather go to McNeese than host Campbell, yes. However I was most upset you couldn't find someone better than Campbell. This adds a second game to the schedule and one at home that will be a 45 point spread. This is not helping shut up the anti-FBSers who are screaming that this schedule isnt better than the one in the Southern.

We won't even be "full FBS" in 2014. What's the fuss about? Have you ever made a college football season schedule? I don't have any idea how difficult it is, but I'm sure it's not as easy as you make it sound. Chill out.

I understand the big picture, and I am sure the FBS naysayers will make their ignorant claims about how this is "big time football". You have to see the forest through the trees and what lies beyond this. The rest of the 2014 home schedule as indicated above will make up for a cupcake game against Campbell. It's not like we don't already play these types of games an FCS program - See A&T this year.

People are not getting my point. The complaint was if we are going to play an FCS, why not pay McNeese to come to Boone or find a decent FCS school or even a SoCon school? Having to play Campbell might as well be playing Lenior Rhyne or Gardner-Webb.

I was not upset we weren't going to McNeese, but for the love of pete, you would think you could get Western or Chattanooga to come instead of Campbell.

McNeese probably preferred cancelling the game instead of coming to Boone for a one and done. They already have a trip to Nebraska lined up for 2014 so I doubt they wanted another FBS matchup. Campbell is far from ideal but it may be our only choice this late into the year.

Hopefully this means we will hear about the rest of our non-conference slate in the near future. Getting pumped, especially if the ECU and Marshall rumors turn out to be true.

There is no decision the App administration could make that would not piss off at least 25% of the fans, I'm convinced of that.

Played at McNeese, some wouldn't want an FCS road game. Schedule a top-notch FCS team, some would wonder why we'd risk an FCS loss when we're trying to build a reputation at the FBS level.

An FCS game is an FCS game as far as our FBS peers will be concerned. As long as the rest of the schedule is good, it doesn't bother me. App will gain respect by beating ACC, AAC and CUSA teams, not those from the CAA or Southland.

We're hoping to rest our players and get a win. Wins against SB teams is important, anyone else is not. When we become Bowl eligible, who we beat will be important, in 2014 it won't, but we still want to look good against the SB teams we play.

Otherwise I'd just as soon play WCU or Chatt, etc.

GSU will end up with only 5 home games and 7 away games if things go as planned. 4 SB games and Duquense. Hopefully, App will still be able to have a 6 home game schedule in 2014. While I am not crazy about Campbell either, it makes sense to get out of the McNeese game, especially if there is no buy out. Looking forward to see who our other OC games will be and hope one of them is at home, not like GSU.

I'd say he's done pretty well scheduling. If we want 6 home games and we do, we will schedule a sister of the poor each year. That would be a constant whether we're FBS or FCS.
