Speaking of sports/teams that are unbearable. I nominate our women’s soccer team. Unfortunately for them, their purple haired leader and most of the team spent too much time being political activists and it cost them a chance at another gold.

Oh well...
I think their activism has little to do with how they performed in Tokyo. This team is full of players who have been playing for the USWNT for several WCs and international competitions. The rest of the world has caught up with us athletically and talent wise. When you can't score you tend to lose. We need an infusion of new talent and perhaps, a new coach.

Sometimes playing for something you believe in can produce results not possible on paper. It happens often in sports.

Perhaps it just meant more for the Canadians. By most accounts they aren't as talented as the US players, but then again it's hard to measure the size of one's heart.

Personally, I've always loved the Olympics but I'm a traditionalist. I tend to agree that things got less interesting when professionals were allowed to compete, but it did level the playing field with parts of the world that effectively had full time professional teams on an on-going basis. The bigger complaint that I have is the inclusion of some of the new sports like skate-boarding, beach handball (what?), artistic swimming (seriously?), etc. I'm not trying to diminish what those athletes accomplish, but the inclusion of those "sports" which they no longer include wrestling is just wrong.

That's my old foggie rant for today. Carry on.

Wrestling is still there. They've even added women's wrestling.

It may be gone soon, which is a shame as it goes back to the original Olympics.

Not interested in women's soccer, but the men's Gold Cup Final win over Mexico was a joy to watch!

A very exciting finish and a somewhat unexpected result given the youth of the squad. The two national teams seem headed in different directions.

After posting my rant, I did realize that wrestling is on the schedule. I googled it and saw that it had successfully campaigned to be reinstated by the IOC. Glad to see them correcting the ridiculous decision from 2013. Obviously I have been out of touch. I still think some of the new sports are a bit "out there" but that's fine. I am very happy to see more women's competitions being added. Long past due.

The decision was made in 2013 to drop wrestling effective with the 2020 Olympics. In 2016, a successful appeal was made and the decision was reversed so for now, wrestling remains. I think it is a travesty to even consider dropping one of the original Olympic sports, but that is just me.

Personally enjoy badminton. Took it at App and when played correctly, and not smashing it at your buddies face, it is a legit workout. Also enjoy table tennis, track and swimming. Have a hard time watching judged sports like gymnastics/diving due to it being so subjective. Not questioning their athleticism at all, I just like clear winners and losers.

Love watching team handball. Fast paced and lots of action. It is, without question, the most fun team sport I have ever played.

It’s funny to read perspectives on this topic. Obviously some folks can’t stand to watch certain sports while others seem to thoroughly enjoy them. I was at App from 82-86 and we actually played what was called- European Team Handball in intramurals. We played it in the old gym and it got a little wild. I watched a little bit the other day and I really don’t get that “team” aspect but that’s just me. Looks like some sport made up on the fly.

I will acknowledge that water polo is probably the most physically strenuous team sport there is but it doesn’t do much for me. Some of the cycling events in that velodrome are strange when they use the split camera. Do the cyclists still use that strategy where they basically sit still for hours waiting for each guy to take off? LOL

Played team handball intramurals at App back on the 70’s. A lot of fun.

I agree with you on this one. I never heard of it until playing intermural at App and it quickly became on of my favorite sports. It is a blast to play.

Saying beach volleyball isn’t a sport is laughable. I assume you never played 2v2 in the sand. Having range to cover those spaces and jumping out of sand for a spike is impressive.

You guys would quit playing before the first game was completed from exhaustion.

Skateboarding was a weird add.
Amen on VB…..2’s in the sand in the summer is brutal.

I'd hate to see it dropped too. I was under the impression that the appeal failed. I'm glad I'm wrong.

Perhaps it just meant more for the Canadians. By most accounts they aren't as talented as the US players, but then again it's hard to measure the size of one's heart.

Lazy arguments by you and 24. Sometimes the better team loses. Like us at Coastal last year. And get over people taking a knee. Some people wave Trump flags, some take a knee.

The truth is now lazy, only in today's world. The team that wants it more can beat the better team. Canada played with pride.

The ONLY flag I wave is the American flag, damn proud of that one too.

Hard to imagine the country turning into a place in which the Olympics is a stage for anything other than supporting our nation and competing on her behalf. Show some damn pride for the best nation in the World.

Let's focus on those that support our Country on the World stage:
