Re: Week 9 polls
Sometimes I feel bad for Pack fans. Every time it seems like State is putting together a quality season they crap the bed. That is a rough school to be a sports fan for.
Losing by 28 to unranked UL will probably keep us out of the top 20 even if we win out, but it seems the voters may like us enough to get 21-25 by seasons end.

Re: Week 9 polls
We need to lose one more time so we can stop the top 25 discussion LOL. Seriously though, I don't think any of us in the SBC should be getting votes right now. CCU has no quality wins, CCU is our only quality win, we got blown out by UL who got blown out by unranked Texas, and we lost to a Miami team who is not even receiving votes at this point. UTSA has a weak schedule so far and probably should be receiving a few votes but not actually ranked. If they make it to 10-0 then I would say throw them a bone but I still don't think they are one of the 25 best in the nation. No way UTSA would beat Texas, Miami, App, Pitt, Clemson, Arkansas, etc. type teams.
I also don't think 12 G5 teams should be getting votes at this point. As of now, I would drop BYU, CCU, SDSU, and UTSA for Arkansas, NC State, Virginia, and either Arizona State or Texas in at 25. I do think those G5s are not far off from them but I feel like we need more resume to see who deserves it and I don't believe that the G5 teams should make up 1/5 of the top 25.
I would think people would pay even less attention to these polls after a voter put CCU at #8 after he had them #9 last week. I know it was an error but a mod should have caught it and asked or he should be double checking his ballot to make sure. The fact he does not take his vote that seriously tells me perhaps he should have his vote revoked. AP mods need to do a better job of checking ballots to make sure errors that look goofy like that don't happen.
A lot of teams in the polls around us are playing other schools who are on there as well so it will be interesting to see results this week. I'm intrigued to see how they look in 3 weeks or so when I feel like we should have enough of an idea on the G5s to know who is for real.

Re: Week 9 polls
The whole thing is so subjective and useless to an extent. Beyond the top 8 or so is a real crapshoot. You can probably just about put number 11-25 or so in a hat, draw 2 out and let them play on a neutral field and it would be a close game. Let 12 play 1 and it’s a rout. Oklahoma won, is undefeated and a one loss Alabama jumped them. Apparently you can’t have a close conference win- I know it’s Kansas but still.
FWIW is Cincinnati better than Alabama?

Polls suck. Nothing but popularity contest. As much subjectivity as possible should be removed from any selection process.

Re: Week 9 polls
Exactly, you can probably go through all of them including also received votes and compare different teams and come up with a reason why one should be higher/lower than the other. But at the end of the day you gotta put the list out. If a team beats another team should they ALWAYS jump above them? what happens then when three teams play each other and each one wins one? who is best? you then have to look at the body of work and it IS subjective.mike87 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:11 amDude, you gotta find 25 you like somewhere.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 8:27 pmWe need to lose one more time so we can stop the top 25 discussion LOL. Re: Week 9 polls
It'll be interesting to see what the poll that counts thinks of an undefeated Cincinnati, I'm guessing they'll be outside of the top 4. Bottom line, G5 doesn't count in the current and won't matter in a future environment. We are still glorified FCS. Coming in as a token at #8 and a 30 point loss in a playoff is up for debate.

It will be very interesting to see what the committee does with Cincinnati. The easy route for them would be to initially put them at 3 or 4 then make some lame excuse to drop them to 5 at the end- “well they were very good but their schedule dropped off at the end”

It would be a ton of fun if there was a Yosef's Cabin top 25. Have us all vote every Sunday and see what that looks like. I'd have Coastal in my top 25 and Lousiana very close.

Re: Week 9 polls
Don’t they have two ranked (for now) teams left on the schedule? If those teams stay ranked until they play, I just can’t see the justification for leaving them out.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 10:17 amIt will be very interesting to see what the committee does with Cincinnati. Re: Week 9 polls
You love Coastal for some reason obvious for the last couple of weeks. They don't belong in top 25, unless being undefeated is a must. They've played a bad schedule, and lost to APP to boot. Eyeball test for me is they have a gimmick offense and are on par with Marshall. Like APP, Coastal probably won't lose again playing the bottom half of our conference.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 10:43 amIt would be a ton of fun if there was a Yosef's Cabin top 25. Re: Week 9 polls
I kind of expected them to fall out completely but it benefits App that they remain ranked for now. To get the maximum lift from our win, we need them to remain in the top 25 for a while longer. My personal preference is that their lose to South Alabama in the final regular season game. That would drop them out and the timing would be perfect for App to slide in and rise based on the CCG. If they lose too son, we won't be in position to benefit from it just yet. That's my thinking at least.

Re: Week 9 polls
One voter still has CCU at 8, up from 9th the week prior. These voters don't watch games, much less pay attention to the outcomes.
