Montana tailgating

Unread post by App74 » Tue Aug 13, 2013 6:27 am

It's our first trip to Montana. Looking for some advice on tailgating especially hearing how Montana fans have a reputation for their courtesy to visitors. We enjoyed the company of several Montana fans last year in the Music lot but I neglected to get their contact numbers. So do we:

1. Drive and park our rental car as closely as possible and tailgate there?
2. Walk in with food and disposable cooler hoping to find a cordial Grizzly?
3. Hang out at a bar until game time?
4. Do the Alumni tailgate?

74, I'm happy to hear you're planning to attend the game in Missoula!

First, where are you staying? Parking is a bitch anywhere near the stadium. If you're staying at a downtown or campus area hotel, you'll be better off walking to the game. If you're not staying close, send me a PM and I can give you some suggestions on where to park.

You will be welcomed at virtually any tailgate. I assure you that you'll be offered free beer at nearly any party you pass by. My wife and I come from Seattle for the games, so we don't generally have our own tailgate set up and often we just hang out at the GSA (Grizzly Scholarship Assoc) tailgate, which is the largest in the area. You will be welcome there as well and you likely won't buy a beer all day.

We were BLOWN AWAY at how well we were welcomed and treated in Boone last year. I cannot WAIT to return the hospitality. Send me a PM and I'll be sure you get hooked up.

Guys, seriously, I have total respect for your program, and after last year, nothing but love for your fans. See you in Missoula. The beers are on me!

I'm not speaking for the Montana fans (I really am), but if you walk in the parking lots they will stop you and give you all the food and beer you want. They will force it on you...LOL....You won't have a problem at all with the tailgate with the Griz fans.

Maybe some can post on here, but I'm sure they will mirror what I just typed.

Bring yourself and an empty stomach, the rest will take care of itself.

Parking can be a bitch, if your hotel is within walking distance, I recommend walking. If not that, then grab a taxi and have it drop you off at the stadium so you can just worry about having a good time.

If you'd feel better contacting some Griz fans, go to AGS or championshipsubdivision.com and track down AlphaGirz, Grizo or Ursus. Their crew came by our tailgate last season to taste some shine and have a good time. They were a fun bunch and I'm sure would return the hospitality. Wish I could make it out there this season. :(

Thanks GrizFan - Happy to hear that your experience in Boone was positive! :D

We rented a house about four blocks from the campus. I will send you a PM with the address and my contact info. I do appreciate your suggestions.
