A lot of the people I know outside of the Appalachian foot peint don't know anything about App either. We really are just a regional school so it doesn't surprise me when these announcers and other sports figures know little to nothing about us. We've had a few flash in the pan moments on the national scene but that is it. We have years/decades ahead of us that need to be filled with winning the conference and getting into whatever tournament is created to get the name recognition.

It happens because there are two ways to pronounce the WORD. Those who are not familiar do not realize there is only one way to pronounce the NAME.

It happens less frequently (as a %) today than 10 or 20 years ago, we just have more opportunities on TV.

Oh and Marshall announcers suck of course.

I've tried to think of another school that has "multiple " pronunciations, maybe Illinois (noy and noise)? I guess what gets to us is that an announcer has plenty of time to prepare for the game. We don't expect him to have a mental history of our school but being able to pronounce the name should not be difficult. First question asked when given the assignment- Who are the teams playing?

Oh and how did Chase do today? I caught a sideline interview with him on Facebook and behind him was the game. At that point it was scoreless in the second quarter. I think he was about to go back out after a fumble recovery.
