Soft Skills

Unread post by vegattk » Sat Sep 28, 2013 9:04 pm

In the college setting where I teach the state and administration is constantly telling us that we need to focus on the "soft skills" of our college students. These are things like:

Getting to meetings on time
Wearing appropriate clothing
Hygiene
How to act in a public seeting vs. Private Setting
Communication Skills
Work ethic
etc..

It's basically all the things that your mother and father should have ingrained in you growing up...

Apparently it's now our job to train them..

In any case I'd like to suggest a few soft skills that a certain few of our fans learn in the meantime.

#1: Communication Skills: No one likes losing, but blaring profanities doesn't make the matter any better. Especially when young children are around. Employers (and myself as a parent) could care less if you use such language at home or amongst friends, but please refrain in public.

I have never seen such language used in such a way at a game... walking back from the stands... and even waiting outside of Mast General... Really kids??? Really?

#2: Hygiene: The guy that sat behind me today was a really nice guy (not the usual seat holders). But we were absolutely disgusted to see that he was dipping and then SPITTING ON THE GROUND directly behind us. First the smell is disgusting, but worst of all the pile got so gooey it was starting to ooze down near our seats.

Learn where you are and realize that other people might now appreciate your spittle splatting on their backsides. Would your mother be proud of what you're doing? Would you spit on your kitchen floor during dinner? Common sense folks!

#3: Public Behavior: If you are going to get knock-down-stupid drunk do not climb up and down the steep steps in 205.. or any section in KB. We had a guy "fall/stumble" down the stairs near us, kick a gal in the back of the head on the way down and then take the legs out from under a lady going down the stairs and cause her to drop her baby that she was holding.

I repeat.. She dropped the baby she was holding.

I am perfectly okay with drinking at a football game. But if you can't stand up straight there is something seriously wrong. You're lucky you ran away because if it had been my wife/child I would be typing this from jail right now.

The baby ended up being fine but the poor gal behind us and the mother especially is going to wake up awfully sore tomorrow.

They'll be festival parking for homecoming after the wagon-eer fans fall off.

From where you and I park, it IS festival parking! Was that vehicle still in the spot next to you when you left? did it have a parking tag?

I sit in 205 FFF and I saw a little of this. It was pretty far down below us though.

Veg, thanks for checking on our friends (the lady with the baby). She's a mama bear and that guy did what was best for his sake by running away. He's lucky that we weren't at the game or I may have been in jail. We've planned on bringing our baby to homecoming, but not so sure now. Like I said before, point this guy out to me at the next game if he's there...if he gets close to my son, he will be more than hungover the next day.

I can't understand why a 50+ year old man would come to a college football game (or any event) blitzed out of his mind...I may be a "youngin'"," but even I'm not that stupid. I guess some folks don't get wiser with age.
