Yosef and the Disappearing Long Rifle
Am I wrong or has Yosef's long rifle disappeared yet again? I don't remember seeing it or hearing it during A & T game. If I'm right it is really sad that folks on the MMB spent hard earned monies to keep a MOUNTAINEER TRADITION alive only to see it-tradition- forgotten again. Anybody heard anything?

Re: Yosef and the Disappearing Long Rifle
Didn't ROTC take over firing and care of the rifle?
here is some info from 2012...
http://rotc.appstate.edu/news/205
2) ASU ROTC, in conjunction with the NC National Guard is co-sponsoring segments of the 15 September Football game when ASU hosts The Citadel. Right now we are looking at opening the Department Headquarters for a light breakfast and a chance for the Alumni to meet some of the current Cadets. We will also have a Hospitality “tent” on Duck Pond Field as a gathering spot prior to attending the game. During the opening ceremony the Battalion Cadet Leadership will donate a new game musket to the University. In the fall of 2011 ASU asked the Cadets to maintain and fire the musket at the games for Yosef. They gladly did so but correctly determined that the old musket was not reliable at best and dangerous at worst. Thus the Alumni fund purchased a new Musket for the Cadets to use and it will be donated to the University on behalf of the Cadets from the ROTC Alumni.

Re: Yosef and the Disappearing Long Rifle
You are correct. The ROTC has maintained and fired the longrifle (not musket) the last couple of years.

Re: Yosef and the Disappearing Long Rifle
We have a death in our family out of state and will have to miss tomorrow's game. If the long rifle isn't in use, would you please let me know. I don't want to start any of my knee-jerk behaviors; but the rifle needs to be manned and used per the agreement or I'll melt down for certain.Longrifle28 wrote:You are correct. Re: Yosef and the Disappearing Long Rifle
Was it used against CSU? I don't remember hearing it, but nowadays I don't remember
a lot of things.
Speaking of tradition, is there any non-alternate jersey games scheduled.
It would be amazing to wear our actual BLACK jerseys at least ONE home game.

Re: Yosef and the Disappearing Long Rifle
was used after every score except extra points.
I think when this one wears out we ought to get a 12 gauge shotgun and use blanks. Would be easier to use, maintain and probably safer. We could then shoot it off for extra points.

I miss YOSEF waving it around and shooting it off at the start of the game

He did. It was right in front of the giant helmet where the fireworks go off. I remember because I had to "warn" my daughter what was about to happen so she didn't get frightened.Dmanuhone wrote:was used after every score except extra points.

You're right, I had those Gold Jerseys in my mind for some reason.

Re: Yosef and the Disappearing Long Rifle
Even better would be a double barrel shotgun. fire it twice with each score.
