Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
I think it's fairly well proven over the years that unless you are a slam dunk franchise type running back or quarterback you might be better off going into the NFL as a free agent. I've heard a stat about first round quarterback busts that is crazy. More than not don't stay in the league long. How many current quarterbacks are guys virtually nobody had heard of- outside of the people who keep up with everything? I have always thought that certain physical aspects of quarterbacks are overblown- like the ability to "make the throws". There have been plenty of guys with big arms who can't make reads and split second decisions. While he's struggling with a crap offense BY obviously has it upstairs or he would not have succeeded at Alabama and would not have been picked first. Based on our schedule next season JA will have plenty of viable chances to show what he's got for the next level. He would go into Death Valley which is always daunting and might be facing a Liberty team who might go undefeated this year as well as several legit Belt teams. Hopefully it all works out for him and App but if he does move on you really can't fault him completely and we will be fine.

1. They are not kids.
2. They are adults.
3. They arr making adult decisions as adults.
4. This is how capitalism works all around you, every day.
A manager gets fired, some employees leave and some lose their jobs with them. A ceo moves companies, some employees follow them. They dont sit out a year. A business goes under or loses a bu ch of money and people lose their jobs. Not an eye is bat by onlookers. But college football players get treated like the capitalist labor force they are and all hell breaks loose.
NIL is a good thing. Lets these young adults make that money while they can, because most wont make the nfl.

Nail hits head...just ask SMU. On a side note, I just don't see him worth half a million. He's a good QB, but I can't wrap my head around that.

I think the On3 evaluations way over inflated. Yes there are a few athletes making 7 digits. I think APP will be ok for the most part this year but next year might be tough. Coaching staff will have to hit in the TP consistently to "reload".asumba95 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 8:51 amNail hits head...just ask SMU. On a side note, I just don't see him worth half a million. Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
I've heard the athletic department offers tax guidance/assistance to athletes receiving NIL money. Is this true? (I think they receive taxable money).
In the case of River Street Ale House that has a NIL deal with Joey, who pays the taxes? The deal could amount to a lot of money if students/alumni participate.
And there may be dozens of these NIL "deals" around that we may not be aware of. Someone has got to be managing or keeping track of these deals. Is it the athletic department?

I would guess NIL recipients receive a 1099 and report income themselves when they file taxes. Some may even form an LLC to avoid personal liability.Oldlknapp wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 9:37 amI've heard the athletic department offers tax guidance/assistance to athletes receiving NIL money. He's got 3,500 yards and 35 tds. Unfortunately, any QB with those numbers is going to get "looks".

Not certain on the intel but I could definitely see WASU air raid since Cam Ward is in the portal. Honestly, it might be a few of them. He's that good.RaleighApp27609 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 10:39 amI meant if he knew specific programs on the west coast.

WASU is in the red and no conference. Not a landing spot. All our major pro leagues are very anti-competitive.
Revenue sharing, salary caps and collective bargaining.
If we took that away all the pro leagues would be dominated by teams in NY and LA.
