This is not about getting with the times. This is not old vs young. I've been an advocate for players to get paid for years. The student-athlete concept was a farce from the start. With that said, I will never give to an NIL fund. A school like APP will lose out more than win if they try buying the players. If you give a kid 500k to play for you, then he does great and transfers to the next team that can pay 1mil, then you just got F'ed. You're money is gone. Period. It's done. So then you throw another 500k at another athlete who does the same. This is going to be a lesson some of you will have to learn the hard way.

With a post like this you should be willing to disclose the total amount you’ve given to the Yosef and Club and NIL this past year.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 9:52 pmIt’s quite hilarious that everyone against a collective have a 79, 91 and 93 in their name. Ain't that the truth. There was quite a bit of complaining on here about a fairly reasonable per seat donation requirement. Now this. Only Congress has more folks willing to spend other people's money.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 6:17 amWith a post like this you should be willing to disclose the total amount you’ve given to the Yosef and Club and NIL this past year.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 9:52 pmIt’s quite hilarious that everyone against a collective have a 79, 91 and 93 in their name. I'm so freakin' tired of seeing the word "loser" used towards people for having a different opinion or perspective. Are you not capable of forming a convincing argument without resorting to small minded bully tactics? This is such a bullshit sense of false superiority.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 7:32 pmSorry, but I am going to call you out - this is an outdated loser mentality. "if it means we lose the best so be it." People on this board with that same mentality will be griping when we do lose the best and when we lose games because of it.appbio91 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 4:51 pmI’m sorry but I will not do this. I’ll continue to be a season ticket holder and donate to YC. But, I can’t get past the fact that this whole conversation treats a FREE 4 year education, access to trainers, nutritionists, housing, food and stipends like they are an entitlement. If it means we lose the best so be it. But if it happens to us it will happen to everyone else in the Sun Belt so field leveling is inevitable. This money is not raised by grassroots efforts. Deep pockets are pouring money in.
Giving anything to the collective does make a difference at our school because we don't have many deep pockets. We have always done more with less and this collective doesn't change that, but it gives us a fighting chance to be competitive for championships so we can continue to develop, retain and attract the best players possible. This is a pivotal day for our programs. We are no longer taking a knife into a gunfight. We may always be up against a higher caliber gun until NIL is reformed for the better, but until then this is the way to provide our programs with a gun and ammo to shoot.

haven't been reading the thread, but just looking at the topic....couple things come to mind...i dont think we will lose JA. first, he's got 1 more year of eligibiltiy...that means he'd have to go to a p5...learn a new system...and have the same if not more production than he had this season to improve his draft stock....2...he knows we have a chance to be great next season...he can continue to improve in the offense and bolster his numbers and draft stock....Lastly...IF we do lose him to an NIL deal...when is the last time we've had bad quarterback play? i been a fan of App since my brother was a walk on QB here in '93 and cant point to a bad qb. But hoping for the best. JA is excellent and he's fearless.

Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
You never know exactly what the future plans are for guys playing college football. Some have no desire to keep playing in the pros. Some simply want to move on in their lives. I'm assuming that JA would like a shot at the NFL. He certainly has the physical attributes and has shown that he can mentally process plays and has the physical skills as well. Based on the breakdown of guys playing QB in the league it's been proven that even dudes who played at smaller schools can get paid. NIL has allowed for insanity among boosters and the QB position is an out of control free agent deal. We certainly have a schedule next season that would allow him to showcase his talents and if he puts up the same impressive numbers he would have to be in the conversation for the draft. It's really unbelievable that our staff actually found him in the first place. Nobody would blame him if he got some ridiculous offer from a P5. Would the other guys on our team really support one player getting some huge payday while they get little to nothing? You hear those stories about public support but I can't believe that there isn't some jealousy that invades locker rooms. I can't see us with a crazy collective just raining money down.

Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
If Joey stays he will be turning down a multiple of no less than three what App will be able to promise him. That is just the reality of CFB today.
The same with Nate Johnson and Hopper. We have to sell the attributes other than money for these players with very high ceilings. All three of those will have a chance to play on Sundays. Hope we get the opportunity to watch them in black and gold next year.
It is a personal choice and while I dislike the NIL/TP as it stands, I can’t fault individuals for doing what is best for them personally.

I thought the whole point of this thing was to allow an athlete to get paid if either of those 3 things were being used on a game, advertising or some other form of promotion. I didn't think the intent was to simply pay a college athlete for play.

What's your problem with paying athletic trainers? You need to understand there would be no program without them and they don't get a dime. Obviously you have no idea what they do. No trainers, no championship. I'll just throw in one last thing. When you grow up you will come to realize the older folks are why you have a program at all. You don't need to preach about giving to those who have been doing so since before you were a twinkle in you fathers eye.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 12:25 amDidn’t realize this was going to turn into a moral pissing match against tithing, livable wages and benefits for athletic trainers. That is the point, and there aren’t any athletes just getting paid directly to play. The dudes getting 6-7 figure NIL deals have to do commercials, photos for ads, in-person appearances, autograph signings, etc. It ain’t just for playing ball.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:23 amI thought the whole point of this thing was to allow an athlete to get paid if either of those 3 things were being used on a game, advertising or some other form of promotion. Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
This is something I’ve been trying to say. In my humble opinion, Aguilar isn’t going to leave unless he gets a very large NIL deal. He’s only going to get a very large NIL deal if he transfers to a big name P5 school. There aren’t that many big name P5 schools that need a QB, AND there are a LOT of other QBs out there. The probability of him leaving is just as much, if not more, than the probability of him staying. And that goes for every other player on the team as well.

So how do I benefit from those commercials if I donate to the NIL fund? Am I now expected to pay for a local company's marketing campaign?MrCraig wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:48 amThat is the point, and there aren’t any athletes just getting paid directly to play. Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
You don’t, other than the satisfaction that the NIL collective is using your money in exchange for some sort of use of a player’s name, and that might make sure that player stays at App and/or experiences a higher standard of living.appvette wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:56 amSo how do I benefit from those commercials if I donate to the NIL fund?MrCraig wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:48 amThat is the point, and there aren’t any athletes just getting paid directly to play. It appears that the better players have their deals worked out before they enter the Portal .The rest are rolling the dice .My gut tells me we are going to lose some guys to NIL and otherwise a search for playing time .Flipside is that we will pick up some too.Just have to net positive if there is a way.

Re: Keep Joey 2024 - NIL
I completely get that but very few of these athletes who do these commercials, photos, etc really add little value. I've heard Drake Maye on a radio ad for some heating and air company. I can't believe that their business has increased because Maye says "this is Drake Maye I like Joe Blow H&A". Now the bigger national companies like Dr. Pepper with Williams are a different story. I've seen a few of those where the athletes do a pretty good job. I think I recall a cell phone commercial where a couple of (unknown to me) Kentucky basketball players pretty much just walk through the room and say a couple of things. Not one bit memorable. It is what it is.MrCraig wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:48 amThat is the point, and there aren’t any athletes just getting paid directly to play.
